These poll questions discussed in a recent Atlantic magazine article remind me of @evan polls.
I assume the article is about the atomization of American society under neoliberalism (I barely skimmed the page)

I think part of the reason why politics is so bad is that we, as an electorate, are not willing to tolerate mistakes, errors, or uncertainty from our candidates.
The exact type of people whose judgement is best are likely to be the ones who are willing to make and admit mistakes and to express uncertainty, which guarantees they will never be elected, let alone trusted to make decisions in the way they are used to.
If you like dry stand-up comedians providing financial analysis, you'll love this explanation of the finance story behind what apparently amounts to what, a third of the western world's economies, at least according to "the market".

Conservatives setting a budget and tendering contracts is effectively declaring "we do not know how or do not want to manage or provide public services".
That is "we do not want to govern".
Between threatening Canada and Europe for talking about cooperating and threatening China and India for buying Russian and Iranian oil and gas, Trump is burning the candle at both ends trying to de-dollar the world economy.
If you are sometimes down on provincial politics and progressive issues in Alberta, here is a small win. Expansion and regularization of recycling province-wide:
Huh, who knew that Alberta had a transportation forward-thinking municipality? I didn't. It's too bad it is in a place with such high housing costs. If only Calgary would learn from them.

Why would increasing productivity be a proper objective of a society?
Hey @evan, in reading your thread you speculate about LLMs hitting a wall, I recalled watching a few videos talking with Yann LeCun who is a scientist who used to work for Meta and has left to pursue his own research focusing on a different technique for training called Joint Embedding Predictive Architecture (JEPA).

I've installed Mapquest on my (new) iPhone because of their stand against fascist US Trump trying to rename things (I'm Canadian).
I've also installed OrganicMaps and I see there are a bunch of other Open-StreetMap-backed maps apps.
Does anyone have their favourites to recommend?

Ok I actually laughed out loud at this one.
Politicians of the past decades have a paucity of imagination and little understanding of how fast the common person will get behind new thinking, especially when that new thinking is about contributing to a a better country that works for the common person.
I think they think change takes time. I think they have no idea how quickly we want things to change.,
A trade deal where you agree not to make other trade deals with other countries?!?!?
FUCK NO

It seems to me that if we make a final tax-based concession the US & its Big Tech oligarchy, we should consider implementing a data protection/privacy/security law that includes filling the holes that the EU's GDPR has, including their malicious compliance with cookie query pop-ups.
Canadian GDPR now!
