I am reluctantly concluding that the biggest problem with the BBS ecosystem is the people in it.

My wife is hustling around the kitchen getting ready for work.
I'm in the hammock on the back patio sipping coffee.
I feel bad but
a) she wanted the job; we didn't really need it
b) that whole "21 years of getting up before 0500 and sometimes going to wars for a year" thing
Basically, I feel guilty for not working as hard as I used to
can't even blame capitalism for this one; it's #USmil culture.
So really, sipping coffee in the hammock is readjustment therapy.

I don't want to build a fully-engineered permanent installation, but was thinking of it more like a chicken tractor or mobile irrigation system: something modular that I can move around the garden as needed to provide additional shade/cooling/solar collection. And take in when we are going to have inclement weather.
I have been looking for more information on small-scale #agrivoltaics, i.e. backyard #garden #solar. So far, most of what I have found is about bigger installations; no one has written up much about implementation for home gardens. What I have found on YouTube is... not exactly well-thought out.

I'm trying to think about what would be most terrifying to my #Tennessee neighbors
a gas pump with $12 diesel?
a gay reaper with a fabulous cloak of many colors? (is this a thing yet?)
a library full of banned books?
Fun fact: this actually started as a grim predictor post, but I decided to make it past tense and then create an ending that didn't make me depressed
actually, in fairness, it's a MESH community--meshcore is just the latest thing they have switched to using primarily, about the time that I started.
I am more interested in other mesh technologies that could be supplemented by MeshCore, e.g. mesh WiFi or the like.
It will never cease to mildly depress me that the local #MeshCore community interacts FAR more on Discord than on MeshCore.
My notes from the presentation, annotated and enhanced with links to books and organizations. You may possibly be able to glean what she was talking about from this.
Very interesting discussion about the real impact of non-native plants in our yards on the native #wildlife and how that impacts everything systemically. Could be useful info (orgs, references) for those outside of #TN as well.

There are about 40 people in this presentation at the #library about #gardening (Beyond aesthetics: garden as if life depends on it)
And at 48 I'm definitely in the bottom three people in terms of age
Bots drove us off the conventional web.
We still had to pay bills, interact with services or government, but it ceased being a place of community as the costs to run sites and fight spam and model training exploded.
Our refugee communities fractured. Some of us went back to BBSes, IRC, or Gopher; some tried to make Gemini and Reticulum work.
But when we coalesced around the Next Place, it clicked. And we swore never to name it here. What cannot be named, cannot be harvested.
I try not to share photos of my kids but it's hard not to share the littlest enderman
I made the helmet myself with a lot of black duct tape and some neopixels for the pulsing, glowing eyes
So many sources are garbage now.
I know a little about a lot of things, and a lot about some things.
Unlike the garbage automated tools, I know when I _don't_ know things and I'll say so.
Humans, please feel free to ask me about any of the topics I post about regularly or mention, or that might be in my wheelhouse. Especially for topics that aren't as well-represented on the fediverse, like #USmil or #guns etc.
It's not #LazyWeb; it's #AskAHuman
Surely someone has already written an old D&D-style grimoire of Linux/bash spells, right?
what would the "schools" even be? would you use the standard divination, conjuration, alteration, etc.? necromancy for backups, I assume.
A Linux cantrip to set your default sound output (if you're using #PulseAudio) to 80% volume
which you could run at startup to override the weird thing my church AV #Debian systems have where they keep resetting headphone volume to 40%
pactl set-sink-volume @DEFAULT_SINK@ 49152
(last value is out of 65535, of course, so adjust appropriately for your use case)
Since the #library has this one, I opted not to buy it (yet) but I did order the same author's Soil Science for Gardeners and Plant Science for Gardeners. He also has a Food Science book and two volumes of gardening myths. I really enjoy his writing and his scientific approach to problem-solving and understanding what is happening in the dirt.
