…Fellow shitposters may like to know that the above image is adapted from George Frandzen’s photo, which in https://www.earthtouchnews.com/discoveries/fossils/one-mans-incredible-collection-of-fossilised-poop/ is captioned with:

“This large fossilised faeces specimen is named ‘The Kraken’.”

Lads! Clicking a link is a solved problem. We're very good at it. It doesn't need reinventing under Copilot's rain of turds

GitHub, under an onslaught of machine-written code, is becoming markedly less responsive on standard web tasks such as:

- clicking a link
- scrolling on a page and expecting to see content instead of white space (a test failure, when scrolled up on, takes 15-20s to display *the PR title*)

…I consistently find Indy to be a most extraordinarily eloquent synthesiser of where we are and where we might go.

He has a relationship with AI and blockchain that I can’t quite get the measure of, but I recommend you don’t let that get in the way of what he articulates supremely well

…Anyway, this morning the person I was looking for a shared awareness of is Indy Johar.

You can listen to him at https://overcast.fm/+BTumWz-O9c

…I don’t want to be *that guy*

I often do searches on Mastodon for a person – not with the expectation of finding them here, because they will usually be resident on another platform – but to see who is aware of them and is talking about their insights and perspectives.

And I always find it disappointing when the person mentioning them most is me

I need to rent a van.

The search results for “Commercial & Cargo Vans” on a rental vendor’s site are grouped into:

- “Best match”: 7 variants of van
- “Recommended for you”: 31 CARS

Why tf would a CAR be “recommended” for me when I have searched for a VAN and you have actual vans?

@urlyman @BashStKid #Swinney is, unfortunately, utterly vacuous. He is a centrist technocrat -- in his youth a competent one.

But he has nothing to offer Scotland now. A decent man in himself, but not one suited to his current role.

Here's a nice quirk of HTML5:

<div style="background: yellow; width: 100%; height: 100%"></div>

If you have <!doctype html> at the top of your page, the code above will display absolutely nothing.

But if you don't have doctype declared, a yellow rectangle will be display with the entire page height & width.

@urlyman It’s somewhat worse than that, as the devolved nations have bugger all funding for their civil service. Their CS are way easier and cheaper to charm, impress, and suborn. Once you control the person in charge of what the minister sees, trebles all round.

…I do accept that a political leader has to find a narrative that stops everything from unravelling, but if that narrative is unrelenting invariant bullshit of the kind we’ve heard for decades, then it is just perpetuating bullshit

Second day in the EU parliament. They saw that one of our people had “political” messages on our shirt (the word Palestine), so we were all told to go into a corner and six security guards all individually went through every forty person's bags and had to approve of any pin's or flag's political messaging.

They apprehended our guides working at the EU parliament for carrying a flag of the political party they represent.

…Self-determination independent of unjust governance is a fine aspiration.

But if the people seeking to lead independence are as deluded as the unjust, then all you’ve done is relocate where delusion flows from. Which won’t get you very far in an overshoot crisis that has *no borders *

…Oil is traded on international markets, not least because the infrastructure for processing it into thousands of products is highly distributed.

North Sea oil and gas is in terminal decline and probably becomes unprofitable in the 2030s.

NetZero is soothing propaganda designed to sustain business as usual before it is anything else.

Good luck with that kind of bullshit independence, Scotland

From the linked article:
“John Swinney, the first minister of Scotland, recently attended a screening of the [National Emergency Briefing] at the Scottish parliament.”

Last night, he was on Channel 4 News saying something along the lines of “if the emissions from Rosebank and Jackdaw are less than importing from other countries, then they should be part of our path to Net Zero”.

So, the film made no impression on him at all then.

Anyone know if National Rail keeps some sort of publicly accessible database of signaling faults, including detection, mitigation and resolution steps, for historical events? I know I can information on current disruptions, I want to see more about historical issues.
