I'm looking to hire a project manager!

I'm working on a project with materials scientists and physicists to build stacked quantum heterostructures, which have potential interesting properties as semiconductors, etc. It's a crazy process that involves crystal growers, driving microscopes with an Xbox controller, a adiabatic demagnetization refrigerators, and exfoliation with scotch tape. We need a project manager to help us ... well, manage the project.

You don't have to be familiar with the movie to appreciate these, but this is a relevant clip: https://youtu.be/yjw_DuNkOUw

Also noteworthy, is that this is the movie in which Rowdy Roddy Piper ad-libbed the immortal words, "I have come here to chew bubble gum and kick ass. And I'm all out of bubble gum."

These awesome lenticular (image-shifting) posters, and smaller sticker versions, are available in various designs at https://badtastegoodcause.com/

I stick these to lampposts and electrical boxes, leave handfuls in coffee shops and little free libraries, and pass them out at protests.

The imagery is a reference to the 1988 cult classic movie, They Live, by John Carpenter.

It's a small thing compared to today's other news, but I got a periodic newsletter today from my tax preparation software company, TaxAct, with an article about the tax implications of the GOP reconciliation bill. Absolutely no mention of its controversial aspects (massive ICE expansion, undermines the courts, benefits mainly the rich, massive cuts to health care, and much more), just cheerleading about all the ways it lowers taxes.

U.S. Supreme Court rules that lower courts can't stop the most blatantly anti-constitutional government actions, and each detained CITIZEN must file their own individual lawsuit to regain their freedom, even as they are being denied access to the legal system that would allow them to do that.

Save some space at CECOT for the six Nazi justices.

If you thought your citizenship would protect you, you were DEAD WRONG. If you thought you didn't need to resist this Nazi takeover, you were DEAD WRONG. Birthright citizenship has been rendered unenforceable, and Trump will now start deporting U.S.-born CITIZENS to concentration camps.

This Saturday, June 14th, on the same day as Trump's birthday and absurd military parade, real patriots will again be in the streets protesting peacefully. This promises to be the biggest protest yet, and it needs to be -- this is how we stop Trump. It's imperative that evryone who is able to do so, attend a local protest. If you're horrified at Trump's approaching martial law, and the budget bill which would slash Medicaid, SNAP, Medicare, and more, while dramatically expanding ICE and undermining the courts, it's time to hit the streets. The Republican-controlled Congress is complicit, and while the courts are doing their best, it's not enough. Our democratic political and legal systems cannot save themselves nor us, it's up to *us* to save the systems and ourselves.

I just read in the trending CNBC article about the ongoing market crash, that billionaire Bill Ackman whines that nobody voted for this.

Bill Ackman definitely voted for this. All of it. Trump made no secrets about his plans; Ackman just thought he'd be exempt from it. He was perfectly happy to impose fascism on the rest of us, in order to keep his taxes low and support genocide in Gaza.

If you support the Leopards Eating People's Faces party, don't whine when your face gets eaten.

The Trump McDonald's story isn't worth dwelling on compared to the fact that Trump is a senile Nazi, but I'll just say that if Trump had ever somehow had a job at any fast food place, he'd've been quickly fired for incompetence.

A low status job maybe, but it still requires genuinely hard work and competence that Trump would be utterly incapable of.

Hello fediverse and #SubduedSocial! I'm Tom, recently retired from 30 years in IT, but new to social media. I'm afraid it'll be necessary to do a little liberal political ranting in the near future, but I'm also interested in bicycling (but I'm out of shape), cats and dogs, and science fiction. I'm in Bellingham, and pleased that @alan provides this cozy server for us!
