https://arstechnica.com/gaming/2026/10/esa-targets-anbernic-emulation-handhelds-as-superfake-piracy-enablers/ :blobfoxdisapprove: god damn it Entertainment Software Association. (NOT European Space Agency! They're cool)

Before anyone says anything, Ambernic does NOT bundle games with their devices. That is what the *resellers* are doing, and what people on Amazon, eBay, AliExpress, etc are buying because of the lucrative "thousands of games!!" offer. But instead of going after the resellers that are doing this, the ESA are blaming... the people that made the hardware. It's like going after the car manufacturers for drunk driving

#NetBSD, take 2...
So with that "new" WiFi adapter, I now have solid internet without tethering in NetBSD. Hooray!
But now I got a new issue. I've got my big 27TB disk turned into a ZFS setup, and I tar'd a copy of my home directory into it, so that I could unpack it into my NetBSD home directory and get all my dotfiles and whatnot. (Said "whatnot" also includes the CDE and Motif source code so that I can build them and use them!)
I just... don't have a goddamn clue as to how to make the zfs command *SEE* that wd1 has a valid ZFS pool and thus let me mount it. (there's also mounting wd0 as NTFS, but we can deal with that later?) I tried looking up information, but all I got was a copy of the man page for zfs and it doesn't explain anything. Halp? @netbsd

because they are full of ASBESTOS https://www.gov.uk/product-safety-alerts-reports-recalls/product-recall-primark-halloween-gonks-2610-0004

They had to recall all the gonks

for fuck's sake :blobfoxdisapprove:

Literal inclusivity means the "big tent" rhetoric that allows toxic people to promote exclusitivity via any means necessary (usually of the violent kind).

ACTUAL inclusivity means having the courage to yeet these toxic people from the community before any of that shit even starts, so that the people actually feel safe for once.

This PSA is directed at #GNOME and no I will not be taking questions on the matter as bad faith debating is how toxic people operate.

Legitimately my biggest worries are audio and video. I was not able to get far enough with NetBSD before my only means of networking stopped functioning to test things like audio. I also found out my networking went kaput when trying to install the package that let me use other screen resolutions... apparently you are locked to 1024x768 until you install an extra package that SHOULD BE something included in core??

RE: https://infosec.exchange/@atax1a/117395524077539163

Decided to do that hardware probe thing and see just how bad things will be overall for #NetBSD, and https://bsd-hardware.info/?probe=4e274ddb05 uhh... am I boned

EDIT: Link seems to break, so go here http://linux-hardware.org/?probe=4e274ddb05 and then at the bottom of page click "How it fits BSD?"

Been thinking about what to do re: that #NetBSD installation attempt. The big thing that caught me off-guard was the apparently abysmal WiFi support. So unless someone is willing to port https://github.com/openbsd/src/blob/master/sys/dev/pci/if_iwx.c from OpenBSD to NetBSD, I need to know an ***EXACT*** wireless adapter that I can use on a desktop PC to connect to my wireless network, because the landlord won't let me punch holes in the wall to run ethernet. Even an Ethernet-to-WiFi adapter would work, but it looks like the only ones available from my web searching are from one company and they are kind of shitty? Like, poor connectivity and constantly needing to reconnect bad. And I am asking here because trying to use the pci(4) man page is giving me only really old adapters that will give me shit speeds (if ANY) on my modern network, or stuff that won't work on a *desktop* PC... that are also really old.

@netbsd still failing. Why the hell is this being so difficult? Am I hitting a stupid gotcha?

WELP, I attempted to install #NetBSD today, but I ran into some serious problems. Namely, after following the instructions on the official website to write the installer image to my USB thumbdrive (which keep changing what the block size should be!), the resulting drive fails to find the kernel and won't go further than the boot prompt. I'm trying some other dd flags and am about to try again, but if this doesn't work SOMEBODY is going to need to step up. Tagging @netbsd because you're the most obvious person here to ask for help with installing NetBSD

FYI: if you or a loved one are using Firefox on CDE, please make sure to DISABLE tabs combined with the title bar. Dtwm gets uncomfortable when that happens and you lose the ability to move or resize the window.

This toast brought to you by @gemini0 running face-first into this brick wall while getting CDE running on Arch

"Techo how serious are you about this migration?" I just got home from Walmart with the 2TB NVMe SSD that will become the NetBSD boot disk.
"Wait WHAT" Yeah I'm just as surprised as you are that you can just walk into a Walmart and buy computer hardware now! Only thing they are missing are motherboards

A friend has (in followers only toots??) stated that LKL might work as-is in NetBSD, but doesn't have any BTRFS partitions to test with. If anyone else reading this thread can give it a shot and cook up usage documentation, we might finally have a solution. And the solution would be that Rick and Morty meme:
🐧What is my purpose?
🐺BTRFS driver
🐧Oh, my God

Alright, serious question for #NetBSD experts: is there any way to mount and access a BTRFS partition in NetBSD?

I have been looking and looking and LOOKING for information about this, but keep finding crappy dead ends. I need some means of being able to mount two BTRFS partitions so that I can migrate the data to something that both Linux and NetBSD will use. Here is what I have found:
1) https://github.com/adam900710/btrfs-fuse A read-only FUSE driver for BTRFS. Appears to be Linux only?
2) https://github.com/rustutils/btrfsutils Buried in here is another read-only FUSE driver for BTRFS. Again, seems to be aimed at Linux only.
3) https://github.com/maharmstone/btrfs WinBtrfs, Windows-oriented... but is willing to relicense to make it BSD-friendly. https://github.com/maharmstone/btrfs/issues/531
4) https://github.com/lkl/linux/ Linux Kernel Library, aka LKL, which allows for using the Linux kernel as a FUSE driver. There is a version for FreeBSD: https://www.freshports.org/filesystems/lkl/ but even I, a complete newbie to the world of the BSD Boys, knows that FreeBSD and NetBSD are completely different operating systems, so I have no idea how portable this is to NetBSD. However if this DOES work with NetBSD, then this would be an excellent solution...

Yaaaaaay I got to permaban a slopper from my repo and put a disclaimer in the readme for Worlds Next -_-
