Back in university when I was doing my CS degree, I was also studying philosophy, particularly German philosophers. I feel that the over-emphasis on STEM over the last 30 years has robbed our society of the intellectual traditions that kept us human.

Seriously though. Search is so fucking broken on Mastodon. What the fuck. I can’t find anything I just read.

Imagine if, instead of 8 lane highway, Americans had been exposed to this sort of transport mode?

Horrific story about “Followers of Christ”, a death cult that kills children by denying them basic medical care. And it’s perfectly “legal” in Idaho. Can you imagine letting your baby die in your arms? Because you believe in some kind of vengeful god who will see any medical care rendered as a grave sin? Why on earth would we allow people to do that to those poor defenseless babies?

Ethics: It is reasonable to restrict liberty in order to prevent harm or risk of harm. All Western law is built on this precept. Check into “On Liberty and Other Writings” by John Stuart Mills.

Any law that refuses to restrict liberty that could lead to harm or risk of harm is _unethical_.

I almost can’t think of anything more socialist than the military

In the year of 2026, the Apple Music app in my car often glitches when there is no network. But rather than pick up where it left off, it will just drop me at the beginning of the song when I resume play, and I can’t but help myself to thinking about the ESP technology in my Sony Discman from 1995 that allowed me to listen to tracks read off a spinning disc using a laser with *nary a blip* when my little cherry red 3 cylinder Geo Storm bumped all over the 101.

I’ve been working out once a week for the past few months and starting to see good results. This started as a result of my nerve impingement injury earlier this year. I decided to fix my posture and do something about the 3% yearly muscle loss that women my age go through. I started out on the 3lb and 5lbs dumbbells, I kid you not. I could barely use my left arm at all after the whole ordeal. That is how weak I’d become. Now I’m able to pump 15lb dumbbells. I can punch 70 lbs weights with my stronger arm on the cable machine. There are actual muscles forming on my back; I can feel them! And my bat wings are GONE.

The only thing you *really need* after you have a baby is a boob leaking milk

Old enough to remember the last time we had "snipers in D.C." and how that all went.

Ugh this guy I used to like keeps messaging me to ask if I’ve used grok and telling me how good it is. Should I:

There used to be actual educational television aired on local PBS stations, back in the day. I remember partially learning Algebra watching one of these courses. They taught the subject real efficiently and there weren’t any product placements or influencers. It was just pure information being disseminated to the public, and I sorely miss a time like that. I’ve seen nothing as simple and effective as just airing math classes on TV. Why can’t we have that anymore?

ST:TOS complete boxed set is also on sale!

Watched Monty Python and the Holy Grail and Spaceballs over the last few nights with my kids because everything is way too serious and we need more physical comedy and cheap gags in the world.

In particular, there is no political figure who is going to save us. No president will step in like a deus ex machina to save us from our troubles.

Psst. The kids are gonna dress up as Spider-Man and remove the Flock cameras on Halloween.
