Not trying to be mean! I'm not interested in Aral's fundraising myself. You don't have to be interested in it either.

IME with other issues, mastodon.social has good capacity for handling reports. I have seen them block an AI-generated article / image spammer.

What do you want anyone to say? You did not share your evidence here.

There are certainly people who take payments on here for various things. That doesn't mean .social has given them all a seal of approval. And that doesn't mean all of their "adverts" should be removed.

I knew #cats could have their blood pressure taken, but it only just occurred me today to look up photos of it, and they are even better than I imagined.

Not only do they have tiny blood pressure cuffs, they can take their pressure either on their legs or on their TAILS‽

^ I'm not best pleased, because Google seemed to have un-verified a recovery email on one of my accounts again.

It does show up as a "recommended action" under "Google Security Check-Up". But I don't think you get actively warned when this happens.

"I had an account that looked like it had a recovery email, but then the recovery email section said I had not yet confirmed the recovery email address (using an email code). I don't understand how this happened."

The #infosec QA site also doesn't think Edge uses end-to-end encryption for saved passwords.

#MicrosoftEdge privacy paper says "passwords are further encrypted on the device before being synced".

But AFAICT, this does not mean anything like the "on-device encryption" option in Google Passwords.

Surprisingly, my #MacBook allows using a saved #passkey without asking for biometrics or PIN.

An advantage of Bluesky is that it shows the link preview in the post editor.

As opposted to add the link preview a few minutes after posting, so you're never quite sure what your post is going to look like :-).

I don't know what this is, but it needs to go.

Wedging an ad in here is the most foolish idea. This experiment / trial balloon needs to be yelled down.

Firefox Suggest is important. It is: * muscle memory * keyboard accessibility * a reduction in dependency on Search, to encourage better security and privacy.

The BT (and Sky) outage graph looks suspiciously similar to the others. This was the only related news I could find, but it's supposed to be fixed now.

A #Microsoft #outage taking out my #UK bank (and others)? Or is it a network issue?

I'm used to this sort of thing from Linux distros. I'm a bit surprised it's not mentioned in the "full release notes" (link in previous post) or the Desktop upgrade tutorial though.
https://ubuntu.com/tutorials/upgrading-ubuntu-desktop#1-before-you-start

I don't remember this being an issue with previous updates. Maybe related: the upgrade to 24.04 (from 22.04) changes the format of all your apt sources:
https://discourse.ubuntu.com/t/ubuntu-24-04-lts-noble-numbat-release-notes/39890#deb822-sources-management

Did you notice? Upgrading to Ubuntu 24.04 leaves Google Chrome installed, but

"Third-party software repositories and personal package archives (PPAs) are disabled during the upgrade"

it leaves you with no security updates for Google Chrome.
