TIL grog was invented to fight scurvy

Thought of this stupid joke in a dream.

You're a corporation in the 1970s. You find out your product is literally killing all life on earth. Do you...

Hi.
You.
Yes, you.
You know me.
Well, you don't.
But you've seen what I post.
So you kinda do.

Once upon a time I was working a a company, which got a new employee.

Said employee worked with us for maybe a month, and then left the company and took a few people with him to a new company.

I have to wonder what kind of bonus he got for "get hired by company X, then recruit a bunch of people there".

Did a mini-holiday with my son this weekend, staying in a hotel, shopping, checking out science museums etc.

Basically every single place (hotel, shop, restaurant, museum) we went to asked if we were a member or used their app yet.

Yo! Want to beta test the speccy game I've worked on for the past few nights? Throw me a DM.

(you'll need a 48k spectrum, compatible, or (most likely) an emulator)

Anyone else have this feeling that we've been in a "just hold on for a little bit longer, it'll get better" phase for like 5 years?

If someone happens to have copy of terra nova: strike force centauri source code, drop me a line.

Couldn't resist.

TIL: GF1, the sound chip that Gravis Ultrasound uses, was derived from Ensoniq OTTO chip, and Ensoniq was founded by former MOS technologies engineers, who did the SID chip.

It's like everything's connected, you know..

Voted.

Unemployment rate in finland is 9.4%, which sounds like a lot. And it kinda is. But, looking at historical data, it's not dramatically bad.

Been thinking of a possible magic mechanic for a game, where the magic is unreliable and dangerous, and mages prefer not to use magic if possible.

Casting of a spell would be taking three cards off a deck.

The deck is first built when preparing for the spell, with one card being what you want to happen, N positive attributes (which cost you), and M negative random attributes. Getting M as low as possible costs time and health and whatever.

The result is that it's possible you don't even get the result you wanted at all, and likelihood that the result is cursed depends on how much preparation you put into the spell.

And the more difficult the feat you're trying, the more expensive N+ and M- are. So for trivial spells, M might be 0, and N+ might be cheap.

When games have option to redefine keys, do you use them..

Do you have, or have you ever had your very own IPv4 address?
