@jimray Hi Jim, I use to regularly read Flicker Fusion. Are you posting anywhere regularly now, aside from Mastodon?

@Moltz

Switzerland actively participates in international #sanctions against #Russia

Yet today Swiss-registered #IA says, “You can now use our apps on devices where App Store is disabled” a wink-and-nudge that they're open to selling to Russia (since they didn't need to explicitly point that out if merely now selling on their site).

I changed my VPN to a Russia-friendly country, said I was in Russia and IA was more than happy to take my money for #iawriter

What say you, @ia ?

A writer asked #ChatGPT to read pieces and help choose which ones to include in a cover letter. ChatGPT gave detailed answers, and even quoted from them… then the writer pointed out that the quote was MADE UP and the description of another was about something else completely.

ChatGPT then confessed it was firewalled from seeing most of the texts, didn’t say so, but instead made up what it claimed it had read. Then it apologized for lying.

THEN IT LIED AGAIN! #ai #llm

Finally a more serious, capable operating system for iPad. This will finally make the iPad a primary computer for a… growing minority.

@Moltz “wreaking”?

#Google made #Apple remove Christian Selig's #YouTube app for #AppleVisionPro, even though they haven’t made their own app and haven't indicated they intend to.

@jamesthomson Any word on PCalc widgets for iOS 18? I upgraded iOS yesterday, and later swiped to use the calculator, and…

#Uber is facing hundreds of lawsuits by women who say they were sexually assaulted by drivers.

So it spent millions pushing a ballot initiative trying to make it harder for people to file lawsuits against major companies.

@Moltz FYI I was looking to see earlier reactions to the iPad Pro & came across this MacWorld piece in 2017, covering the opinion of Forbes 'contributor' Harold Stark to the 2nd-gen model:

https://www.macworld.com/article/230245/too-good-time-to-stop-making-ipads.html

Forbes today lists Stark as a former contributor, but his old articles note his website https://www.haroldstark.com/ which I just visited and discovered is now... a pest-control company.

@gruber Just came across this site in a Reddit discussion, and I thought you might be interested if you didn't know about it:

Column: Elon Musk is an antisemite. What can anyone do about it?

“#Musk's behavior raises the question of whether any company he leads can be an appropriate government contractor. At a press briefing in August, Pentagon spokesman Patrick S. Ryder dodged that question.”
