An evil man will burn his own nation to the ground to rule over the ashes.

i hope 'muricans are learning that regulations stop companies from doing bad things

many of us knew this, but the FAFO is getting real these days

This is what it’s like being a woman in America (or any authoritarian state)

ICE has killed again, and they will keep doing it: https://migrantinsider.com/p/ice-killed-lorenzo-salgado-araujo

A quotation from Vonnegut

For some reason, the most vocal Christians among us never mention the Beatitudes. But, often with tears in their eyes, they demand that the Ten Commandments be posted in public buildings. And of course, that’s Moses, not Jesus. I haven’t heard one of them demand that the Sermon on the Mount, the Beatitudes, be posted anywhere. “Blessed are the merciful” in a courtroom? “Blessed are the peacemakers” in the Pentagon? Give me a break!

Kurt Vonnegut, Jr. (1922-2007) American novelist, journalist
A Man Without A Country, ch. 9 (2005)

Seven of the 11 warehouses ICE bought to store human beings as if they were nothing more than inventory (including the one in the "inland port" in #SLC) are being canceled. Sometimes, we do win against the barbarity.

https://www.sltrib.com/news/2026/06/18/ice-spent-700-million-7-warehouses/

This is only a start, we still need to:

* Get the other four canceled
* Shut down the other concentration camps, such as the ones being run in Texas and Florida
* Abolish ICE
* Burn our current immigration system to the ground and use its ashes to fertilize a humane way of welcoming new neighbors

But sometimes, we do win, and we get to celebrate that.

Every single person who gave Elon a pass for his "not a nazi salute" (and his everything else) needs to do some real deep introspection now that he is helping to launch actual pogroms.

If Dems stole elections we would have universal basic income and universal health care and so much more

There are a lot of things in this world that I'm not sure about, but I am 100% sure that Elon Musk understands none of the messages that Star Trek has for humanity.

if our 'rights' can change every 4, 6 or 8 years with elections

we don't have 'rights'

we have what we are allowed to have

@itgrrl @ricci also, this reminds me of a story I recently learned about and had been meaning to post about. Did you know that Margaret Hamilton used to bring her daughter to the lab when she was working nights and weekends, and let her play with the AGC simulator?

Her daughter crashed the simulator by accidentally invoking program 01 and resetting the guidance system to believe it was back on the launch pad.

Hamilton felt that was a pretty serious bug but was told "no, there's no way a trained astronaut would accidentally do that."

A trained astronaut did, in fact, do precisely that while Apollo 8 was on the way back from the moon.

She was allowed to fix it for Apollo 9.

@theleftistlawyer

we don't have rights if they can be taken away every 4-6 years due to administration (or in the case of republicans, regime changes) changes

discrimination, bigotry, racism, misogyny are all BAD

time to wake the f up. again. for the 7th time, now.

This is so good. Everyone should have to watch this clip, especially in tech. Paraphrasing: “If you want to include women/minorites, but have no plan to keep them safe, that is not inclusivity, that is exploitation.”

i found a job that barely covers my living expenses

so now i am stuck in a job, any job, because i can't afford private insurance

this is NOT a solution for me or anyone

and the only ones making money are the insurance companies who will deny coverage on a whim so they can make even more money

when i had private insurance a few years ago I was paying about $10,000 per year with a $5,000 deductible

i looked yesterday and the same coverage was now $16,000 per year with a $7,500 deductible

i'm single, one person, on the hook for $23,500 per year

our 'insurance' system in the US is fucked

billionaires and politicians have bumped their heads against the notion that if everyone is comfortable enough they can keep stealing

but the minute everyone is not comfortable enough then people wake up that the billionaires are thieves

billionaires are a policy failure

bring back the 90% tax rate

if the horrible men who hung out with pedophiles but say 'well they may have abused children but i only abused women over 18'

they are as bad as the pedophiles because they turned a blind eye to the rape of children

they could have said something, they didn't and they are despicable

i've been seeing an adobe ai ad on cable the past few days

it is fucking buzzword salad with no inherent meaning

blah blah blah

what the actual fuck is going on
