thought the sharpener was overpriced, but after seeing this I don't think so anymore

I have three sections in my website, and I wanted a different sorting order for the free verse section.

Had to make a meaningful code change to a static site generator in #commonlisp that I wrote in 2012 to support configurable index generation sorting logic for the various sections.

It was originally doing a reverse lexicographic sort order, but I wanted reverse numeric order.

Turns out I am still able to write artisanal CL without much difficulty after all these years, and that opens up the possibility to easily add more functionality in the future.

Also, CL being a frozen language, is that the code is immune to bit rot.

This was a good read.

As promised my collection of #freeverse is online!

There are 80-odd pages already.

Will gradually add to it.

Does anyone know if the latest #openbsd release allows full duplex audio, so that we can do video calls?

In the release notes, it says recording and monitoring can be done simultaneously.

Must read for today.

A highlight:

```
Level 7: After a meeting or tough task, resist checking your phone.
Instead, sit down, sip water, and think about your ancestors. They fought wars. You just survived a Zoom call where your boss said that your work is crap and you aren't focussed.
```

In the TV show Archer, there are many quotes like this:

Archer: "I’m not just a pretty face. (he said, with a hint of desperation)."

where Archer acts as the narrator in a humorous way by actually saying out what's in the parentheses.

What is this literary device called?

It's a form of metatheatre in the same way as "Breaking the fourth wall", but what is this particular type called when a character also makes narration notes for comedic effect?

Went to #Singapore with family for a five day trip. Wrote 11 handwritten sides of A4 #tomoeriver paper with a #fountainpen

Will do a light round of editing, then transcribe and upload to the website. Might need a few days to get around to doing this.

Lots of pictures as well, will share them here.

Good comment.

There's a new Common #Lisp #book.

Modern Common Lisp with FSet

Enjoy!

Thanks for writing this, Scott. https://scottlburson2.blogspot.com/

Also, https://codeberg.org/haydn/typesetter looks useful as a GUI #typst editor! Just found it.

I had to prepare some slides for a training session at work.

I wanted it to be a PDF and not any of the presentation software formats.

The options before me were raw Beamer, some kind of Org -> Beamer or #Typst.

Typst seemed promising and started looking for a presentation framework.

Ended up using https://typst.app/universe/package/touying/ and it was a pleasant experience.

With plain text presentation source code, we can take advantage of version control.

The agent helped me get started with the boilerplate. I had to do a lot of editing of the agent's output to make the presentation easy to follow.

Was satisfied with the overall result and I have something that can be easily edited and extended without having to deal with fiddly graphical tools.

Bible study notes from the book of Acts. I want to replace the turquoise ink with something else. Maybe black, dark grey or brown. Please share your suggestions.

For some weird reason there's a hangover from school days of being forbidden to use red (teachers only) or green (principals only) ink.

Pens: Sheaffer and TWSBI Diamond 580 Iris.
Ink: Pilot Iroshizuku Asa Gao (blue). Pelilan 4001 (turquoise).

I thought I'll learn something and started listening to a Systems Design podcast.

The content seemed fine to me, but I heard them say "InJinks" for NGINX, and "CeeAyePee" Theorem for CAP Theorem. There are official pronunciations and acronyms for a reason.

Now, it seems like it's AI generated and I can't find the names of the hosts anywhere.

Unfortunately, the content is decent, so I'm feeling conflicted.

What would you do in this situation?

I always felt I was good at estimating things. Once someone asked me how much time it takes to read the Bible cover to cover. I felt it would be as much as two LoTRs worth, so I said 50 hours. Everyone thought I was making up fertilizer and mocked me.

Turns out it is around that much, and all those people are sadly not on here.

Now the tedious process of sending paperwork to the FSF to be able to contribute patches seems like a stroke of genius.

I guess we still need humans to lick an envelope and stand in queue at the post office.
