https://theconversation.com/the-activity-trap-fear-of-losing-benefits-is-stopping-some-disabled-people-from-exercising-293501; https://getyourselfactive.org/project/activity-trap/. Yet another thing for #disabled people to worry about, @ChrisMayLA6, @HarriettMB, @junesim63: losing their #disability #benefits for daring to take #exercise!
https://theconversation.com/childhood-adversity-linked-to-billions-in-health-and-economic-costs-new-research-293876. This should come as no surprise - but is a clear indicator of the short-term "thinking" & multiple #false #economies indulged in by #politicians of both "Left" & Right in this country, @ChrisMayLA6, @HarriettMB, @junesim63.
https://bylinetimes.com/2026/09/21/reform-council-leader-denies-climate-change-crisis-after-record-heat-deaths/. Speaking as a #Social #scientist, I find #Climatechange #denial a truly fascinating #phenomenon: how all these people can deny a whole lot of #evidence that is staring them in the face, plus the #facts of #science, is simply amazing. Cognitive dissonance & "false consciousness" shape the thinking & perception of far too many people, @GeraldKutney.
https://www.disabilitynewsservice.com/access-failures-at-tory-conference-leave-wheelchair-user-suspended-in-mid-air-for-more-than-an-hour/. #Disabled people aren't welcome in the #Tory Party, that ought to be clear. No disabled person should be foolish enough to belong to it!
https://www.disabilitynewsservice.com/whately-appears-to-agree-social-security-spending-is-not-spiralling-after-all-as-tories-plan-36-billion-a-year-cuts/. "The #Conservative shadow #work & #pensions secretary may finally have accepted that #spending on #socialsecurity is not 'out of control'', just as her Party says it wants to cut more than £36 billion a year from the 'welfare' #budget. The apparent admission from Helen Whately contrasted with comments by her leader Kemi Badenoch this week, & follows months of misleading claims to #Parliament & on #socialmedia by senior figures in the Party."

"The #communications #watchdog, #Ofcom, is investigating whether the $1.9tn (£1.4tn) #company [Meta] infringed the #Online #Safety #Act (OSA) by failing to carry out adequate checks on whether its #Instagram Instants #product could show #illegal #content or be accessed by #children."
https://paulkrugman.substack.com/p/the-trump-administration-is-a-cesspit. "I shouldn’t omit the tragic fate of Simon Andriesz, the #British #banker & #whistleblower, who recently died by suicide. Andriesz revealed to the #Senate that Lutnick had lied about the extent of his ties to Jeffrey Epstein. Right before his death, Andriesz spoke openly about how threats to himself & his family as a result of his #testimony had ruined his life."
https://www.theguardian.com/law/2026/oct/04/ministers-drop-radical-plans-cut-jury-trials-outcry-lawyers-centuries-old-right-courts. This is excellent news! The plans were a disgusting #attack on our #civilrights, & ought never to have been proposed in the first place. The remedy for the backlog in the #criminal #courts is more #money & #resources for them, not attempts to deprive #defendants of their #rights!
https://www.theguardian.com/business/2026/oct/02/bosses-firms-trains-uk-35m-pounds-last-year. "The #chief #executives of 3 #firms that #rent out #trains to Britain’s #railways were paid a combined £3.5m last year as they passed on almost £400m to #shareholders in #dividends. #Rail #unions accused the rolling stock #companies (Roscos) of raking in #profits at #passengers’ #expense." That's exactly right. It's time for the trains to be nationalised.

https://www.theguardian.com/world/2026/sep/23/madrid-police-teargas-protesters-disabled-woman-evicted. "There were #violent #scenes in #Madrid on Wednesday as #riot #police fought with #protesters trying to prevent the #eviction of a #disabled 87-year-old #woman from her #apartment in the El Retiro #district of the #city." The #violence was on the part of the police, using #teargas & #baton #charges - all for the sake of supporting a #landlord evicting an #elderly disabled woman from where she's lived for 71 years. This may be #legal, but it's grotesque #injustice!
