Yo, why does stuff need to be bloated these days??

That's bigger than my third hard disk! 🤦‍♂️

#Android #Kobo #Bloat

I still cannot understand how the #Android 16 battery usage monitor can be this useless. 🤦‍♂️

everything reminds me of him

My father-in-law asked me to fix his phone. Without him knowing, I went through his YouTube shorts feed and blocked all those obnoxious far-right influencers channels. Then, I restarted his phone. Now there are only videos about capibaras on his feed and he's going mad about it.

It is a truth universally acknowledged, that a single distro in possession of a good live USB experience, must be in want of a homegrown and severely limited partition manager built into the install experience.

Ok, I just realized that Apollo 13 (the film) was longer ago from today than Apollo 13 (the mission) was when the film came out. (1970 -> 1995 -> 2026)

I'm already sitting down... I may need to go lie down. 😄

Ok #Asmiov nerds, help me out:

Can I watch #Foundation, or do I need to read it first?

My only other exposure to Asmiov was the Robot Trilogy, which I loved in High School.

Ok, that #TheWeeknd song (Blinding Lights) at the end of #ForAllMankind S5E10 was a frickin' banger.

What other flipping amazing music have I been missing out on for the past 25 years?!? 😂

Hey @stefano, are you still accepting users on littleone? I'd be curious to "kick the tires." :)

How to reconcile Trekkies and normal people

@pachli

Just FYI, I've been getting a lot of errors when trying to use #Pachli Current with #GoToSocial lately.
It persists even after I clear app storage and re-login to the instance.

Of the major three #BSDs I've used so far, #NetBSD's #pkgin is the nicest package manager*, reminding me a lot of apt-get.

#FreeBSD's pkg is pretty good, too.

* IIRC, it's an optional manual install, though, but easily done

Macintosh b&w art, random pick from my collection day 08

Hmmm, when I write toots in #ed, I forget to complain about #nvi's lack of #WordWrap.... 🤣

Many years ago I used to work on a Cobol-based application that ran over an 80x25 green screen terminal. People running 30 or 40 users on a 486 PC running SCO Unix hooked up to a multi-port serial card.

We'd never have tolerated the amount of waiting between actions or screens that is now considered absolutely normal on web-based cloud-hosted applications.

Weird how things change.

#UK residents only:

In the middle of summer, what do you set your air conditioning to?

#AirConditioning #AirCon #AC #Poll

Watched a YT video last night that confused me a little.
It was a Brit living in the U.S., and he was saying that the reason people in the U.S. complain about summer, even though they have air conditioning, is that they set the aircon to a temperature that would be considered very high by U.K. standards: 75°F/24°C.

That doesn't make sense to me, because I was under the impression that Americans are the most liberal with their use of air conditioning, because of the relatively low price of energy here.

So, if you're in the #UK, poll to follow in a reply to this toot...

(Wow, some of y'all set yours lower than me. 😂)

*sigh* rather than seriously considering the MathAndAI dot org declaration from 28 Fields Medal winners (including Terry Tao), OpenAI just plowed ahead full-steam and released another 372 major results in mathematics around unsolved problems (although the proofs are reportedly nearly impossible to independently understand—but verification via Lean appears to be included for many—and read like the author was stoned).

I will tap the sign, once again, even though none of the AI companies are paying any attention. #maths #mathematics
