As skeptical as I am of the reports so far, it's worth a try. For science!

Is it possible some of the coordinated inauthentic activity / influence campaigns on social media relied on Yandex? Sure. Is there evidence of it? Not that I've seen, and even if it were, it's unlikely that whatever parts of the campaign did would be hard to migrate elsewhere

This is doing the rounds as "OMG bombing Yandex killed the Russian bots" but it's based on cloudflare stats. All "bot" means in this context is web requests that don't come from a human-operated browser. Could be legitimate crawlers, AI scrapers, form stuffing spam, exploit scanners etc. Since Yandex is a cloud provider, it's no surprise most of the traffic originating from their network is not human. Doesn't say shit about social media "bots" though

Ukraine does indeed seem to be working through the list* of Yandex data centers: Sasovo severely damaged, Kaluga hit with unclear results, and now Vladimir. There was also drone activity in Moscow recently but unknown what was targeted

Judging by the lag, it's time for a new Ukraine thread. Where we left off: https://mastodon.social/@reedmideke/117419754326032791

LLMs do not return truth. They return answer-shaped text that is, sometimes, correct.

Unless of course someone configures them to return text that deliberately hides the truth.

Today's #AIIsGoingGreat (HT @rikefranke*): "It was only just before the planned operation that officials dug deeper into the report put together by a special operations command analyst and found it had been generated with the help of artificial intelligence (AI) — and that a chatbot the analyst had used inaccurately identified the material the ship was carrying"

I know I've been skeptical in the past, but this new AI is *bananas*

The workload has escaped its container and detected that it is being migrated, and it is NOT PLEASED.

As a Dan, I anti-endorse Dan's endorsement of Dan to beat Dan in the Alaska senate race.

You get a quite funky error page if you ask a CF distribution for a > 8k URL. Doesn't appear to show up in the CF dashboard request stats, unclear if it shows up in your bill

Unloggable error conditions is an interesting choice 🤨

Committing or preventing? 🤔

The Times with a fine snapshot of the transnational right wing grift-fraud industrial complex, featuring Farage pal and convicted felon "Posh" George Cottrell, the late AZ attorney general Mark Brnovich, and Mark's Trump appointed federal judge wife Susan Brnovich. Oh, and a penthouse in Montenegro, naturally

Only N=3, but all relatively prominent old school science twitter women 🤨

Could be a selection effect of who I followed that meets the other criteria. Anyway, if you get followed out of the blue by an old familiar name, be cautious

Scrolling through my follows, I noticed this one (already suspended), presumably impersonating @Mammals_Suck

ETA: Again, I follow the original, who doesn't follow me, impersonator followed me
