I’ve managed to put together some of my thoughts on what exactly I think is going on in AI assisted development.
Oh and also there’s more Destiny Lore references. That’s a big plus!
Anyway, please enjoy:

If you’re like me and trying to get #xscreensaver working on #macos27, this patch may help:
https://cdn.redezria.net/xscreensaver-maze-macos27.patch.gz
Basically MacOS 27 does some absolutely ass things to the window initialisation/deinitialisation that you have to account for. Thankfully because it’s just the window itself this *should* work on any of the screensavers with a similar edit… I’ve not done that because I only use Maze on my laptop as nothing has ever caught my attention as much before or since 😂 And this was a fun side quest.
I can’t help you if you use one of those desktop-image-based screensavers, I would bet there’s some new cursed nightmares down there for you to solve. Good luck I guess!

Finally, some good news. Turns out here in Aus you now have to consider *all* greenhouse emissions from whatever you’re digging up… not just the ones happening in Aus.

Existential Tracheotomy prep
@decryption a "sereve misalignment" you say? :P #thesizzle
That said, I can't wait for the collective voices of the Fields Medallists to get ignored entirely like everyone else.
So I was stood up for a late night meeting, but not until after I had drunk my coffee. So, in a somewhat manic state, I wrote this on how they're trying to sell #AI #datacenters as net assets to the power grid here in Aus. Enjoy!
Sometimes it's fun to consider how I started in tech with how I work now:
When I started:
- Start up Windows machine
- Dev MSSQL + IIS server spin up
- That's gonna take 30 mins.... Time for a coffee and to catch up on the football.
Now:
- Open Macbook
- LLM Agent goes about collecting emails and events from last night to provide me with a list of things to do
- That's gonna take like 20 minutes.... Time for a coffee and to catch up on the football.
Honestly we've gone nowhere people, the only thing I can see is that we're somehow using more power doing things.
What would happen to your timeline if mastodon.social went away?
(Reposting my tool that helps you figure this out.)
mastodon.social is the biggest server on the #fediverse , with over 21% of accounts, and an even higher percentage of #Mastodon accounts.
But what does that mean to you, personally? Let's say it went away tomorrow - (assuming you aren't on it yourself), how much of your timeline would vanish?
In my case, it turns out - not a lot, actually! The biggest sources of posts that I see are (1) a very small instance that doesn't even federate with much of the Fediverse, but many of my friends are there, (2) my own instance, (3) a large tech-focused instance that is still much smaller than mastodon.social. The big guy is only 5% of the post I've seen recently.
But this might be different for you!
Find out for yourself at https://moderation-explorer.online/ . Use 'advanced mode' to see this analysis, since you need to log into see your actual feed.
You might even decide to try moving to an instance that you're more connected to?
(It's explained more on the site, but all the work happens in your browser, I don't see your identity, auth tokens, posts that get loaded, none of it.)
Hey so, speaking of #AusAlert: Everyone's been worrying about women in domestic abuse situations getting impacted by the test, but nobody's been considering that the *same* considerations apply for any usage of the system?
Yeah I know, we're doing some risk calculus there, but also domestic violence is a *serious* and *widespread* problem in Australia, we can't just rule that out as a minor issue, we'd have to really consider whether or not you hit the WOOP WOOP button because every time you do you are putting a number of people at real risk that may be worse than the emergency.
Honestly I think this is probably a *really bad idea* to maintain such a system.
I choose to believe my current obsession with #Racket is a positive direction in my computing journey and not a problem behaviour. Rewriting all my core tooling -- for the *fourth time* in three years -- isn't a cry for help, it's totally me doing something highly productive!

Could time skew and TLS (I’m assuming the latter part anyway) bring down a whole nation? It’s more likely than you think
It is the time of year again that I tap the “Get Your Flu Shot” sign. (Caveat: if you are in Aus specifically)
https://blog.redezria.net/blog/can-people-please-take-their-flu-shots/
Oh god no, a *Microsoft* OpenClaw?
What do you mean “based on consumption of whole ingredients”?! Who *ate* the green tea bags, tea box?! Who hurt you like this?!
@decryption To answer your #TheSizzle question (and apologies if this is part of a flood of answers), it looks like Aylo is relying on the iOS age gating in operating system. Basically if you're underage in the UK, the OS should force age filters on Safari/App store content anyway *without* the server side needing to do anything.
That means that assuming the user has a *correct* age set in their Apple account, Safari should deny access to Aylo's websites before the request goes out, so Aylo can assume any request from iOS26.4 Safari must necessarily come from someone of age.
So in other words: They *arent* doing age verification, they are instead pointing at Apple and saying "But sir! They said it was ok!"

Any time I’m trying to debug networking problems remotely
Went to the new Baillie Hill complex in Vic Park today. Lovely restaurant place, strong recommend if you’re in #Perth!
The park around it is quite nice too, got some interesting architecture reflecting on the history of the place as a sanitarium.
As will probably surprise nobody, I have been thinking about things other than computers recently. Most prominently, Petroleum oil. No idea why, seems to be in the news.
Here's a blog post about how even if everything does go to shit in a way it has not yet, it's more than likely going to be okay.

Holy moly. Don't. *Dooooon't* use OpenClaw/Moltbot/Clawdbot. It's about as secure as a screen door on a submarine.

Just look at this garbage. Friends don't let friends use this kind of thing. Tell them not to! Tell your family. Tell that weird uncle you have that thinks he can get rich quick off AI or Crypto or whatever, we all have one.
https://arewedecentralizedyet.online/ has been switched over to new datasources for the social networks, coming from my own #fediverse crawler and #atprotocol observer. Improvements include better heuristics for fediverse user counts and real monthly active user stats for #bluesky/#atproto . I'm also making more raw data available, both for the most recent counts and historical data at https://arewedecentralizedyet.online/data/
Overall, doesn't change the conclusions much, but I'm very happy with these new datasources.
