Want to know how much memory (in bytes) your machine has installed? Let
sysctl(8) tell you with the following command:
sysctl hw.realmem
The realmem value is memory before the kernel and modules are loaded, whereas
hw.physmem is what is left after they were loaded.
The number of active CPUs is displayed using this command:
sysctl hw.ncpu

SmartOS: The illumos Way of Thinking About Servers
A practical look at SmartOS, illumos, zones, LX compatibility and the way this operating system approaches servers. Not a complete guide, just enough to understand why I like it.

I'm currently writing a review article about a BSD system on a TUXEDO notebook with a window manager setup. It will be published in the next days on the Dark Blue Project website
Follow @darkblue for the announcement and all future reviews and articles ;)
Something is happening in the background right now, so possibly another post will be published later today...
The Q4OS team created a Breeze theme for the Trinity desktop so Trinity can now look like modern KDE Plasma 6. Great!

Great to see that LibreWolf is now available in the Arch extra repository instead of the AUR. The more packages are in the official Arch repositories the lower is the risk of getting a vulnerable package.
Good job, @librewolf!
The 24th Kieler Linux and Open Source Days are over. It was an awesome event with many interesting conversations and presentations and it was my first time as a Kielux team member.
Thank you all for an awesome time and see you next year!
The FediBlue Mastodon instance has been updated to Mastodon 4.7.2 which is a security update that temporarily disables HEIF support
I'm happy to announce that, according to Google's search tools, the Dark Blue Project website is not optimized for AI bots and LLMs 😄
This is a long time effort to ensure that the website is using natural instead of artifical intelligence.
The FediBlue Mastodon instance has been updated to Mastodon 4.7.1
You're searching for a new Mastodon server and are a FOSS interested and friendly person? Then look behind this awesome link: https://mastodon.fediblue.de
A new article about a BSD adventure will soon be published at Dark Blue covering the setup of a BSD system as an authoritative DNS server.
Psst... I won't name names, but Puffy will be part of the article 😉

I will attend this year's Kieler Open Source and Linux Days from 18th to 19th September in Kiel, Germany. It is a fantastic event with many interesting presentations and I'm happy to be there physically.
Let's turn the Kielux blue, or better, darkblue 😉 See you all there.

When the developers of COSMIC continue with the fast release pushes I can edit the template of the Dark Blue Weekly news episodes and include COSMIC in there by default 😄
I've discovered the article about LibreNMS from @stefano today which is a network monitoring software that can discover devices over multiple protocols, you can configure alerts, it has an accessible API, and it can monitor many parts of a system. The demo on the LibreNMS website already looks interesting. Another project on my list of things I want to try out.
