I fell asleep watching a PBS program on the evolution of the brain. The program began with a focus on intelligence of dolphins. Just as I was dozing off it was making the point that development of the eye is closely connected to the development of the brain. This might explains why plants don't have brains and that may also point to a fundamental issue when LLMs try to mimic human cognition. Just a thought. Cheers, -Randy #ai #llm
Each morning Wendy and I go through this ritual of read two pages of Bible, run One Moment Meditation app and two pages from The Philosophy Book. I must say Jacques Derrida's ideas about "There is nothing outside of the text" relates remarkably well to LLMs. Cheers, -Randy #philosophy #llm #ai
My views on LLMs are evolving. That said, for the moment I have chosen to live an "AI clean life." That is, I will avoid using LLMs in general and for software development. I did just listen to "Linus Torvalds: AI Is Flooding Linux" on YouTube. If the use of a LLM found defects in the Linux Kernel I can understand seeing that as a good thing. Humans use tools and often look for better tools. My car is a tool too -- but it has seatbelts I am legally required to use. Cheers, -Randy #ai #llm
I watched the Jon Stewart interview of Jacob Coxon regarding AI. I am still sorting through my feelings about this technology. That said, I remain determined to live "AI clean" as possible. In practice this me reading/writing code without using AI tools. It means using noai.duckduckgo.com for most of my Internet searches. At the same time investing lots of mental energy into *end-of-the-world* fears is something I'll avoid. Cheers, -Randy #ai
"When we cease to ask questions about knowledge such as 'is it true?' and start asking questions such as 'how can this be sold?', knowledge becomes a commodity. Lyotard is concerned that once this happens, private corporations may begin to seek to control the flow of knowledge, and decide who can access what types of knowledge, and when." - The Philosophy Book - Big Ideas Simply Explained, page 299.
