Strange women lying in ponds distributing swords starting to look like a reasonable basis for a system of government

Friends! My Hugo House class starts in just over 2 weeks, there's plenty of space, and NOW is the time to apply for a scholarship if you need one. (Partial scholarships only, typically up to 40% off, which would bring the price from $490 down to $294.)

Capitol Hill, Seattle

Masks Required

PS: While this says intermediate/advanced, it's an all-levels class. You do not need previous playwriting experience.

Transformational technologies like microcomputers and smartphones were so obviously useful that rank and file workers were smuggling them into their workflows despite the best efforts of CEOs to stop them.

The "transformational" technology of LLMs is so obviously anti-useful that CEOs must resort to threats and coercion to get their rank and file workers to go anywhere near them.

Some assorted beings from a project that never was, including an early, fiery exploration of the metahuman form...

Yesterday the Washington Post app ran a story about the #handsoff #protests at the top of the app. Today it is hard to find any coverage. This is now buried in the "The District" section of the app and only found by searching for me.

This is a gift article. I recommend people visit the article, share the link with others... And show the WashPo that massive voter turnout deserves more than a few hours in the spotlight.

In the meantime they keep the same junk articles on the top stories for days

Let's see if their Top Stories algorithm actually works.. boost and click through.

You scan the QR code, which takes you to a little online payment page that shows what is currently in the fridge (mini cakes and slices). You pay and when your order is in the fridge unlocks and you take your goodies. The baker built the system herself from mini-fridges and microcontrollers!

We tried out the Butter Half "Cake-o-Mat" in north Ballard this morning. We showed up 10 minutes before it opened and there were already about 10 people in line and more coming!

I'm still unemployed, and I'm starting to think that I'm not going to find a job with #Django (in Berlin or remote).

After 25yrs as a dev I'm really pretty good - actually I'm good enough that I'm a better tailwind developer after three days' than people who've been using it for a year or more. And that's with me being a backender by trade.

Anybody's hiring? I'm also a good tech lead, I can do devops, etc etc.

The liberation day tariff order? Which, anyone? Raised or lowered?... raised tariffs, in an effort to collect more revenue for the federal government. Did it work? Anyone? Anyone know the effects? It did not work.

Apparently Automattic are laying off around one in six of their workforce. And I'm one of the unlucky ones.

Anybody remote hiring for a UK-based full-stack web developer (in a world that doesn't seem to believe that full-stack developers exist anymore) with 25+ years professional experience, specialising in PHP, Ruby, JS, HTML, CSS, devops, and about 50% of CMSes you've ever heard of (and probably some you haven't)... with a flair for security, accessibility, standards-compliance, performance, and DexEx?

My husband and I know this man. My husband taught his kids. He's an incredible sweet guy. He is in the country legally- he pays taxes, he's married to a US Citizen, he has no criminal record and now he's in ICE detention. For those who thought "it can't happen here" it is happening here. #FreeKarim https://www.instagram.com/p/DHzAZhxJHcF/?img_index=1

#dayjob development cycle:

1. Receive vague JIRA ticket that contains only a title
2. Randomly guess at requirements, code
3. Send to QA
4. Get told I guessed wrong
5. Think "hmm, I should clarify requirements before coding more"
6. Send questions to product and QA
7. crickets
8. Loop back to 2

Thanks to @nullagent for alerting me to Joe Molloy's campaign for Seattle Mayor, who is drawing on his experience as an unhoused person. Just shipped some democracy vouchers his way, his is definitely an important voice to have in the race
