there are many voices here in the fediverse that occasionally (sometimes frequently) bemoan the lack of fedi projects focusing on different modalities of social media rather than following the trend to copy commercial iterations of particular types of implementations and chasing the “scale player” featuresets and interfaces.
I am bemoaning that but across the “FOSS” spectrum. but hope is out there. there are lots of beautiful small approachable usable projects happening out there. but they’re by definition harder to find by being smaller and quieter and having less biomass.
so, if you find yourself gazing across a beautiful small approachable usable humane human-scale piece of your personal puzzle, one of the best things you can do to help it thrive is tell the rest of us about it and how it fits into your life. no code, no pull request necessary, you don’t have to sign a contributor agreement of any sort - just tell folk about the thing. extend the potential biomass involved in supporting the thing. it goes a lot farther than you think.
