New 'big boat stuck' just dropped

The funny** part is that eggs do lay eggs. Given enough eggs, you can use those eggs as collateral on an egg loan, and pay no egg income tax.

No goose of value is commemorated here

Oh my god, these are real, actual slides from a SoftBank presentation. Pulitzer-worthy

yo @Kels_316 I heard you like boats?

This Friday at noon PDT, I will be speaking about UNIX V4 for @lindsey's Languages, Systems, and Data Seminar! I'm excited to demonstrate programming with a teletype, as that hasn't fit into my other talks.

If you're interested, email (see my site) or DM me for a Zoom invite.

Abstract: We recently recovered UNIX V4 from a 1974 magnetic tape at the University of Utah. This version of the UNIX operating system, thought to have been lost, was the 19th copy distributed to the public, just months after the first public announcement. It was originally acquired by Martin Newell while managing the computer graphics laboratory, and it was likely connected to his foundational research in procedural modeling and the famous Utah teapot. UNIX V4 was the culmination of the effort to rewrite the kernel in C, made possible by the introduction of structs to the language, and has shaped all modern operating systems. In this talk, I put this artifact into context within the larger history of UNIX and demonstrate period-appropriate software development with a paper-printing teletype and replica PDP-11.

@Kels_316 @nickzoic fucking hell, there's an even worse sequel... https://www.youtube.com/shorts/v6rZT7K_7rQ

You get quite a few nuts out of these things, and I bet they store really well if you dry them out. I can see why Aboriginal people liked them so much.

There's a real range of sizes though, some of the D tier ones are actually F tier and don't have any nut in them. Might be an idea to do a float test, like you do for pumpkin seeds.

Scored a couple of Bunya cones from @futzle, let's see how difficult they are to crack.

I started chopping them out with a kitchen knife, but soon realised it's easier to just pop them out by hand.

Hey @Kels_316 you like ANFO, right? It's in this week's episode of Idiots Doing Dumb Shit (ping @nickzoic)

Not too shabby, just waiting for it to dry after wet sanding, then I can put some finish on it

Making a gift for my wife, time to take the clamps off and see how it's held up

It's kicking off over on Bluesky...

@pjf I feel like you ought to know about the saga of the gay pirate plate, if you haven't already seen it. https://www.reddit.com/r/CuratedTumblr/comments/1ru2re0/saga_of_the_gay_pirate_plate/

Software developers literally only want one thing, and it's fucking up your codebase by doing "cool shit"
