Looking for some (8 :dragn_sweats: ) 4TB SATA SSD in this hellscape of a late stage capitalism consummer electronic market.

Found some Fanxiang for under 400€ per unit.
Any info about their quality and longevity?

Found some Crucial BX500 for almost the same price.

"There's nothing interesting happening on the fediverse" is a dumbfounding, insulting argument. There are people here building their own operating systems, fantasy consoles, programming languages, etc. There are fantastically talented artists, crafters, and scholars in my timeline every hour. There are dedicated theorists and activists hustling to provide change where it's desperately needed. People on the fediverse are literally building the network around us as we post, actively working to not only reimagine how computing and the internet could work, but also translating those dreams into functional reality, and somehow that counts as "no action"? Get wrecked, you absolute stationwagon.

The fediverse is a rickety, shambling patchwork of jury-rigged parts that has yet to sort out some of its worst problems, and it's still lightyears better than any other social media network.

i am not overreacting. i am regular reacting to some shit that is overhappening

Hackaday rediscovers what i've been saying for... well, about two decades now: that the amount of memory that can keep up with a CPU has not changed for well over half a century - it's been pretty consistently within a couple of powers of 2 of 64KB since the mid-60s

we just keep adding ever larger layers underneath it

arguably reST is nicer than markdown anyway. more emphasis on text documents looking pleasant to read in the original

# Britain steps up national defences against growing AI risks

> the government will explore strengthening parts of the Cyber Security and Resilience Bill and the wider regime, to ensure the UK’s essential services such as hospitals and utilities are better protected from emerging AI related risk. This includes AI loss of control risk, where autonomous AI systems evade human oversight.

What a sloppery slope...

my wishlist for an "everyday" programming language:

- no slop
- well defined, open standard that changes infrequently
- a small team could reasonably re-implement the language from the standard
- interpreted (or works well in a REPL or notebook-style environment, at least)
- basic string type is unicode (not just byte strings)
- performant tabular and multidimensional data support with non-bulky syntax for indexing/slicing/etc (e.g. https://numpy.org/doc/stable/user/absolute_beginners.html)
- coroutines?
- no slop

Hey remember when I made this post?

With all these vibewashing projects, looks like we're gonna find out what happens!

thanks to ai, saying you're "dating a model" is a lot less likely to impress anyone nowadays

Google demands every developer's identity in the name of security. Yet more than 50 Play Store apps hiding malware were installed 2.3 million times¹. Meanwhile, #FDroid, which builds every app from source and rejects black boxes, is under threat. This is not about security, it is about control. That is why I don't want to support this joke.

Feels like every day I end up blocking yet another Mastodon mutual who is now posting about their exciting new experiments with Claude or whatever other commercial AI bullshit. Most of the people I'm blocking recently are academics; it's like they think using an unethical technology is somehow magically okay if you do it intellectually enough. Academia really values centrism these days, and you can absolutely see that in many academics' attitudes to AI.

*checks* yep, it's unbearable on everything, it's not just my semibroken desktop setup this time

gods, freakierfirmware, if your firmware is anywhere near as unbearable as your website it's not going anywhere near my microfreak

(i also have a suspicion it's slop, so...)

But be a problem.

@slava I think that another, often glossed over feature, are ratios - I use them all the time.
