Reading through Anthropic's official repo for giving agents various "super skills"[1]... There's an "algorithmic art" skill and the instructions are explicitly encouraging pure deception as one of the key "critical guidelines":

"The philosophy MUST stress multiple times that the final algorithm should appear as though it took countless hours to develop, was refined with care, and comes from someone at the absolute top of their field. This framing is essential - repeat phrases like "meticulously crafted algorithm," "the product of deep computational expertise," "painstaking optimization," "master-level implementation.""

For someone who's been working in this field for almost 30 years, this "skills.md" file is just the worst... and so far off the mark! 🤮

Touch some effing grass, Anthropic (and all boosters)! How can so many people think this approach is _the_ future? The map is not the terrain...

[1] Alone the premise of this repo is pure comedy gold and pure sadness in equal measures!

A selection of relief globes from the Globe Museum in Vienna. Relief globes depict the surface profile of the planet. They were created initially for the education for the blind, but soon became a popular variant. #maps #globes #history

This is a very cool optical effect

Whichever dot you focus on looks purple while the others look blue

As someone whose eyes have been "settling" from cataract surgery followed by a superficial keratectomy in one eye, and has noticed my vision changing daily at various focal points, this is fascinating

this is more of a Bluesky joke huh

Sigh. It's always "you should consider medication for your ADHD" and never "thank you for doing the first half of all of these projects."

just saw the word "promptathon" and had to ringu it away here, sorry

I need some kind of flashing status light over my desk that checks downdetector and tells me whether I should or should not spend an hour troubleshooting IAM configurations 👻

Hearing that I was a fan of Sanborn maps, the curator plucked a thick volume off of a shelf which turned out to be an elevation of the town’s main water supply, tracing the pipes from the reservoir in the hills to downtown, drafted by surveyors in the late 1800s as an accordion-fold drawing which would easily have been 50 feet if we’d opened it all up. Hand-inked, color-coded, and annotated with notes over decades.

I got a brief tour of our local library’s archives yesterday, and the density of detail, nuance, and interconnection possible in a few scraps of paper always makes me feel a bit light-headed. Digital models are such an impoverished medium. I couldn’t bring myself to take any pictures

Concurring with The Onion: There Absolutely Nothing We Can Learn from Clams

I wrote an article concurring with the recent Onion article: "Biologists Announce There Absolutely Nothing We Can Learn From Clams"
