@letoams I'm looking for that case ~20 years ago when a German(?) or Dutch(?) wire-tapping system had a MOSSAD backdoor in it. Search sucks, but it also is just returning exploding pagers articles. Did that scandal have a name? Wikipedia page?

@OpenMediaOrg https://action.openmedia.org/page/192033/action/1? #openmedia call to action on Rogers illegal fees.

Is there a word for when an acronym winds up with the last word repeated? Like, "I'm looking for an ATM machine", which gets said, despite it expanding to "Automatic Teller Machine machine", or RAS Syndrome, ... maybe there is a list of such sayings.

So is there a #mastodon protocol discussion (or IANA Considerations) where we can get more reactions than "Like"?

So, I understand the new new name is the #departmentofwarcrimes.

https://datatracker.ietf.org/doc/draft-iab-agews-report/ A report on the IAB (IETF) workshop on age issues. Operated under Chatham House rules last October, the report is worth reading. #ietf #age

Does my #mastodon instance/account keep track of number of people who follow me (that I don't follow back) who then have their accounts killed/removed? 90% of people following me in the past few months have been real, interesting people who I definitely wanted to follow back. But, in the past few weeks it's been 90% empty accounts, which I assume are phisphing.

I'm attending virtual #Nextcloud Special Event on Feb 18 because I support digital autonomy. Join me to regain control of your data and infrastructure. Save your spot at: https://go.nextcloud.com/r/FeUh I am also interested in helping #canadians and Canadian #nonprofit to repatriate their online presences.

I did not think/know an #eSIm was a chip. I had always assumed it was a #tee (trusted execution environment), like keystore.

I guess location=Canada is just an attribute one can set. No flag though. @johncormier

How do I get a cdn flag on my name? Use a mastodon host in .CA? Is it an explicit emoji? A setting I haven't found to set my country? Like @johncormier

I'm forever wanting more/reliable #linux #freebsd #serial #console. While the latest 1U servers have working ipmi and BMCs, there are still many older systems that do not, plus #beaglebone #rpi and random ESP32 things.
USB serial has gotten better, with many devices now having actual serial numbers (without which, the ports come up randomly), but there are still many challenges. RS232 (+-12V) vs 5V-TTL, 3.3V TTL, and even 1.8V TTL. NULL modem vs not. RTS/CTS desired, but often a problem.
I wonder if it's possible to (via small FPGA?) to do such a thing.
Maybe it just needs to be an expensive debug tool that tells people who didn't live through the 1980s how to hook stuff up. Maybe @azonenberg has a notion. Are there I/O pins that can do -12V/+12V or 1.8V? Obviously when debugging, one wants to listen to all pins for a signal, figure out how strong it is, and which is the TX and RX, and then reprogram.... and only then exceed 1.8V.

What a shot. Seems to be real, and seems to not be a composite.
https://apod.nasa.gov/apod/ap251216.html "Explanation: What’s happening over that tree? Two very different things. On the left is the Andromeda galaxy, an object that is older than humanity and will last billions of years into the future. Andromeda (M31) is similar in size and shape to our own Milky Way Galaxy. On the right is a red sprite, a type of lightning that lasts a fraction of a second and occurs above violent thunderstorms. Red sprites were verified as real atmospheric phenomena only about 35 years ago. The tree in the center is a boab, which may live for as long as a thousand years. Boab trees grow naturally in Australia and Africa and are known for being able to store large amounts of water: up to 100,000 liters. The featured image was captured last month near Derby in Western Australia."

Two #mastoron questions. When I heart something, does my server prioritize replies? 2nd: any way to dislike a topic? Or would require more (server) local clue, which I don't have? Still hoping for growth of #algorithm that I control.
