(judging from the murmurings, I’m guessing it’s not the kind of issue where a site has to be using particular features, more a “chuck this malformed data at any page to get shell access” kind of thing; we’ll see…)
Bleurgh the PHP security stuff sounds bad, not a fun day if you work in hosting or run your own server & could be a messy time for the web in general for a while https://www.huntress.com/blog/php2shell-leaked-critical-php-vulnerabilities
(I get the trade-offs, and I don’t think anyone on X is automatically the worst person in the world but come on, you can’t have it both ways!)
Surely the worst “I’m going back to X” post so far, basically saying “everyone else should keep boycotting but it’s too difficult for me” as if that somehow sounds principled https://www.platformer.news/does-intelligence-need-a-hard-cap/#slinking-back-to-x
And yes, that’s crap for ad-supported content/services
I’ve been telling people for years that they shouldn’t feel bad about blocking ads as it’s a basic security & privacy measure. Ad networks & publishers have shown no interest in sorting out the free-for-all so users have to protect themselves https://www.theguardian.com/technology/2026/oct/15/israeli-firm-digital-ads-enabling-installation-of-zero-click-spyware-researchers-say
Went into town & fave bakery was open so of course I got a samosage roll
(I don’t think I’m particularly knee-jerk or highly principled about this stuff, but what’s frustrating is leaving that platform cost many of us rather a lot, it wasn’t done on a whim, but you still get tech people, journos, etc treating it like you’re missing out on all the fun over silly quibbles)

If you’re a tech person who wants to post about AI then yes, clearly it’s where that happens
But even if there’s little politics in your timeline it’s still a deeply political platform that only exists in its current form to push far-right views
Jojo went swimming in a pool today & is now absolutely knackered
(she’s wary of getting in but then swims really well, glides along unlike the hound’s slightly panicky paddling!)
If you already make weird little things and ship them then feel free to get in touch...
Could do it as a stick-on rubbery face with fluffy beard material, a complete sensory nightmare to use
Product idea: caps lock key with Brian Blessed’s face on it
Current status: plodding through a spreadsheet tidying thousands of cells of data
(dug out an abandoned halloween project from 2019, not sure if I’ll finish it though, needs hundreds of images to do it well)
8-byte DOS demo (yes, bytes not kB) with sound https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9A-XJjnU5Oo
Yes, I’m spending a billion dollars on a AAA Norfolk game, Grand Thetford Auto, it’s got a bit more magic & folklore than the original
Doing some research for possible game project…
You basically have to be on X if you want to network about tech, startups, AI, etc, tolerating far-right views in a space designed to favour them. As I’ve rambled on about before, there’s now a HUGE divide between tech & creative people that simply wasn’t there 5 years ago, it’s so bleak
I occasionally check ex-Twitter to see what state it’s in and the main result of that is being disappointed by some developers I previously respected who have bought into the tech-industry’s far-right-welcoming chumminess on there
