LB: I want everyone to know - and please tell everyone! - that it is better to use the public defibrillator in *every* situation.

If you get the defib, and the patient's condition isn't suitable, either the machine itself or the emergency call handler will tell you.

But if you're ever unsure about whether you should use the public defib or not, the answer is YES. Every. Single. Time.

And if you're unsure about whether you're capable of using one: YES. You are. They're made so that anyone can use them.

It is not possible to make the situation worse. You can't do anything wrong. Every thing you try to do for a person having a cardiac arrest is better than not doing it.

The other day I discovered that the BAnQ digitised all 32 volumes of the Franco-Ontarian folktale collection « Les vieux m'ont conté ». This collection renders the tale as collected and then "translates" it into, ah, a more standard French. They are downloadable PDFs.

Each of us is only temporarily abled. So many of us think we're invincible but either through genetics, accident, illness, crime or old age(or a combination), we will all become disabled at at some point, to varying degrees. Protecting disabled people and making the world more accessible benefits everyone in the long run.

Thought of the day:

We need more product testing teams consisting entirely of elderly people.

They are lowering US flags to half-mast for a week, but if the government really wants to pay tribute to Dolly, they should fund education, the arts, and medical research instead of trying to eradicate them.

As a neuroscience, tech, and COVID-aware researcher, watching people try to comprehend AI watermarking has been absolutely fascinating.

It’s like watching a bunch of golfers wander onto a tennis court and argue that tennis can’t possibly exist because they can’t find the hole.

🔥 If you don't understand water, you don't understand fire. Every wildfire begins long before the first spark. We drain the Earth's groundwater, pave over the land, and send precious rain rushing to the sea instead of letting it nourish the soil. Trees slowly die from thirst until forests become fuel. Every wetland restored, every tree planted, and every drop of rain returned to the ground is a chance to save lives, wildlife, and our future. Don't wait for the next fire. 💧🌍

🇨🇦 Canadian Word of the Day: Chesterfield

In many parts of Canada, a sofa or couch is still called a 'chesterfield.' This term, largely archaic in the UK where it originated, held on firmly in Canadian English for generations. Not to be confused with the cigarette brand. #Canada #CanadianSlang #WordOfTheDay #Chesterfield

Hi, I'm Donna. I work as a librarian and host a French-Canadian #tradmusic session in Toronto. I use a service dog and maintain a website for visually-impaired Canadians. I'm interested in metadata, open data, and I'm learning to code (slowly!). Thanks for letting me join your community!
