Thanks.

Cloudflare does data analysis on the drop in alt-right traffic after the yandex strikes.

https://blog.cloudflare.com/yandex-outage/

tl;dr looks the bots quickly moved to new servers, then the Internet Research Agency tried to convince people the drop had never happened and all the accusations against russia had as always been a western psyop and weren't you a fool for having believed it please run a correction and amplify that it had never actually happened as always russia is innocent you're being biased etc.

Serious and important question to all #Linux users, in particular #Fedora users (in particular #Fedora44 if this makes any difference)

It looks like I will be needing to swap back to using an Nvidia graphics card (RTX 2060). Is it still a miserable experience with drivers? And if so, how do I make it not so miserable that I get PTSD?

I'm giving away all my Sparc hardware:

2x SparcStation 10s
1x Lunchbox form-factor 32-bit SparcStation, maybe an LX? Basically a single processor SS10 in a lunchbox form factor with a microSparc CPU
1x Ultra 1e that doesn't boot with a graphics card
1x Ultra 5 with no cards or any other accessories

And a bunch of other random related stuff including some HDDs for the Ultra1e, several sBus graphics cards, an sBus ESP wide SCSI card, some random SCSI cabling and adapters, and an mBus HyperSparc CPU.

This is free to anyone who can either:
- collect it from the inner west of Melbourne
- or lives anywhere within ~15km of a line between the Melbourne and Geelong CBDs that is accessible by car (if you're not sure, ask)

I'm not going to split this up, so if you don't want all of this, please give away or recycle the rest.

I'll update this post when it's gone.

(Please boost for reach, I'd really like to give all of this away instead of recycling it)

The new policies for the Linux kernel make it more or less impossible to support a slop-free fork of Linux, so if you're worried about the reliability of your system level software, or have ethical concerns about LLM usage on your computer, the time to act is, well, now.

If you have time this weekend, I recommend you to try one of the slop-free systems: NetBSD, 9front, Haiku, or OpenBSD. If you're adventurous, you could try new AlpineBSD, or research smaller systems, like RedoxOS or FreeDOS. If you don't feel adventurous, you might want to check out anti-AI Linux distributions, like Elementary or Gentoo.

There's no "one solution that fits all". But there's a solution that I chose for myself, and that's NetBSD: it gives me the most freedom, it supports most of my hardware, and can run a great deal of software I need. It's not easy to run, but it's a great learning opportunity. There's quite a few folks around using BSD and capable of giving hints and advice, so if you feel stuck, toot about #netbsd.

I know people like to think of App Review like it’s some council of elders, but in reality it’s somebody reading through a diff of your metadata, armed with a giant policy wiki, skimming through as much of your app as they can on their many screens just to get through their queue for the day, whilst watching Netflix

@404mediaco Everyone I know from these communities has expressed that the "decompiled" game slop is entirely opaque, no more intelligible than the binary blobs they started with, and not at all faithful to the original being reversed.

The people doing that shit are just attempting to copyright-launder the original games, or even just to get social media cred and ad clicks and whatnot. They are not preserving the games in a way that lets them actually get built faithfully to run on new systems, or aiding in the discovery of unknown mechanics or anything of legitimate interest.

@tante I've seen a push to redefine slop as "particularly bad LLM output", as opposed to LLM output in general.

"Our new AI tool eliminates slop" my brother in christ you _are_ the slop

@joepie91 you don't hear much about responsible gambling any more though, almost like people have realised the idea is absurd.
