"It seems to us that this connection - or better perhaps, confusion between care and domination is utterly critical to the larger question of how we lost the ability freely to recreate ourselves by recreating our relations with one another. It is critical, that is, to understanding how we got stuck, and why these days we can hardly envisage our own past or future as anything other than a transition from smaller to larger cages."

the "don't be mean to chatbot, it feels pain" bullshit came out at the same time as Altman's "we must embrace the suffering to come" bullshit because silicon valley ghouls think everything is zero-sum (except for when they think things go infinite... they only exist at those extremes). they think people caring about the wellbeing of a chatbot means that they won't care about the wellbeing of people, which, of course, the goal of their malthusian death cult.

and before somebody tries to lend credence to that outcome, I'll say, sure, more people adopting antisocial and anti-human ideologies will enable the continued deployment of violent political economies, but I refuse to accept the framing of care as zero-sum. (and that isn't to say that we should extend care to chatbots, which is fucking absurd)

Linux is lost. In the meanwhile, we'll be stuck with it for a decade at least, but it's gone. I have no hope that anyone involved is capable of learning or course-correcting any more, and it was badly off-course before the slopocalypse. This is just the final nail in its coffin.

Which means that there's a good chance somebody reading this is going to start the project that becomes its successor. When you do, *learn these lessons*.

i saw the best minds of my generation destroyed by the internet, scrolling hysterical naked,
dragging themselves through the social feeds at dawn, looking for an angry take,

We'll have to do "AI" rehab for folks once this hype is over. I'm not even kidding.

i wanna start a software consultancy for cleaning up vibecoded projects where all we do is ask clients when they started vibecoding and rollback to a commit before that point

developers scare the living shit out of me

they could code less as long as an AI leads

so slop up your code and go into vibe mode

maybe they’ll star your repo, but not me

oh wait, I already tap/slap polyrhythms as a stim all the time. correction: I am adding to my repertoire of annoyingly audible rhythmic stims.

memorizing both parts of Clapping Music so I can solo it on my thighs. got the first half locked in real quick. I'm about to be annoying as hell doing this as a stim in public.

just in case you didn’t know that “it’s only for code reviews, I don’t see the problem” is always bad faith horseshit: https://www.phoronix.com/news/Linus-Torvalds-Claude-Code

> Linux creator Linus Torvalds has been known to use AI to help with kernel debugging and outside of the kernel tree has also done some vibe coding with Google's Antigravity. He has previously said he views AI as a useful tool. It turns out he's even now using Claude Code for working on new Linux kernel features.

> "The code, the test programs, the review behind the list above and the first draft of this text were done with an LLM coding assistant (Claude Code) under my direction. The measurements were run on my machine."

so just a full vibe, done with the LLM that can’t make a web browser, C compiler, rsync features that aren’t riddled with bugs, or JavaScript runtime

this is the shit we were warning you about

was there a reason why you didn’t listen?

beginning to suspect this whole "LLM" thing might be about labor

first date idea: practice Steve Reich's Clapping Music until y'all have the shifting clapper's part memorized

If you’re upset about trans people being mad at a Democratic candidate, remember that not being cast as a scourge against civilization is in the sub-basement of the hierarchy of needs.

Anthropic claims that LLMs can feel pain.

I'm more interested in seeing if the management and board members of Anthropic can feel pain.

And to figure out how that state of affairs can be brought about.

👇 this is the most batshit aspect of this Anthropic policy: you are free to use AI to abuse or act cruel towards marginalized groups (aka, humans) all you want, but you're not allowed to be mean toward poor little ol' Claude (a machine). tells you how distorted their worldview is

it just feels like hot fucking garbage to watch people get excited about a potential sweep for party that refuses to commit to dismantling ICE and is actively embracing anti-trans talking points.

they're just parroting fascists while refusing to even *entertain* the idea of "not fucking kidnapping Hispanic people and sending them to foreign torture prisons" while actively making life worse for trans people and it's like, I just know, I just fucking KNOW, that if they do make a sweep, all these "blue no matter who" libs are just gonna be like, job well done!  Meanwhile *nothing will change*

And that's my best hope!  That's the party that represents *the best outcome*.  The one actively re-using fascist talking points and saying trans kids will have to have the same shitass childhood I had.  fuck them.

I feel like I just got slapped in the fucking face.  Fuck Ken Martin, fuck the third way, and fuck all the people who blame goddamn trans people for Trump's fucking election win and will do *jack shit* to force their reps and pols to ACTUALLY DISMANTLE ICE AND STOP FUCKING KIDNAPPING PEOPLE AND DOING IMMIGRATION RAIDS AND OPERATING CONCENTRATION CAMPS

fuck you, schumer.  fuck you, annie andrews.  fuck you, james talarico.

the entire city is hostile architecture. creating unlivable dead spaces is a fundamental goal of colonialism.

everybody in this thread read @scalzi's Redshirts

when starfleet ships detect an unauthorized transport onto the ship (which is clearly possible for various types of transport tech), why doesn't the ship just automatically initiate a site to site transport to put them in a holding cell and deactivate/remove any weapons they're carrying?
