Poland has one of the most developed wild mushroom eating culture in the west. I used to forage for wild mushrooms since the early childhood and I was eating them together with the adults. These days the health officials are saying that I'm not allowed to feed even the most basic wild mushroom to my daughter until she's 12. I can't shake the feeling that it's some sort of colonial culture war against the polish traditional food. My question to the eastern fedi friends, where the mushroom culture is way more developed than in Poland - what are the recommendations towards feeding the wild mushrooms to children in China or Japan? Do you also treat it this strictly or do you allow some of the most obvious and common ones on your children plate?

People are upset about debian but debian would have to reject the kernel to reject LLMs. The fish starts rotting from the head. No distribution will be better than the very kernel it runs. The entire ecosystem is collapsing.

We really do have the 30M lines problem, as Molly Rocket put it. The kernel have always been a single point of failure

We need a standardized SoC (system on chip) with entire system ISA (instruction set architecture). We need operating systems to be a weekend projects. We need thousands of operating systems. We need open source hardware that will enable that.

Hey, you know who loved coming to this hotel every vacation?

Yes, you are not wrong.

None other than the famous Durchlaucht Heinrich Himmler. You love it even more now, don't you?

@futurebird id also suggest nagging people to put their videos on peer tube, it doesn't steal the views that would have been paid for, the audiences are separate so it's neutral. Also, what, like 10 views?? If they get sponsorships, it's even better because the sponsorship doesn't compete with the YouTube ads. At some point the audiences will move to peer tube and sponsorships will be sufficient.

I've been working on updating a decision making process in a #coop from #voting to #consensus inspired by #ietf #decisionMaking process when a colleague made me realize that consensus process is not compatible with many #neurodivergent cognitive styles. It disproportionately favors #Neurotypicals and extraverted ppl while putting more introverted and less verbal type people at a disadvantage. Also it's yet another "social capital" dominated decision making process. Less social capital - less likely you'll actually speak up against the crowd.

The "no one left behind" goal is not fulfilled by the "no loud opposition" decision process. What process does that? We're staying with the simplistic voting for now but adding a prolonged debate. Any ideas? How other #cooperatives do that? Especially #anarchist ones?

I've put 18°C PCM (sodium sulfate+table salt in water with thickening agent) package in a hat. It cools my brain now.

Can I be overclocking with that kind of CPU cooling?

What it should be called? Or what it's called if there is such thing? I mean a dystopia showing a failed attempt at #solarpunk. A revolution that was good in general but went terribly wrong because the well-meaning people failed to recognize the true source of the problem, or just a revolution that allowed some corruption to persist and then the corruption overtook? And the honest people were cheering for it because it looked like what they wanted on the surface. #Omelanoma (Omelas melanoma)? #Greanwash? #Greenfash? Or just #dystopia?

I just realized there should exist a cannon of dystopias that #solarpunk s point to as a warning on what is going to happen if we don't actually #decolonize our supply chains when building solarpunk or keep the capitalist ownership structure when building our green future.

To me, the prime example of this is the movie #elysium. A paradise space station in the clouds full of greenery and high tech and loads of lowlifes on the earth, rotting on the wasteland.

I was recently shocked that people clapped for a skyscraper with a roof garden with fruits that was showed on Andrew Millison channel. People called it solarpunk! A tiny bunch of locals in the comments pointed out that the workers that keep those gardens up don't enjoy their fruits. They are low pay. The relatively tiny output (1t annually) of that garden goes to a luxury restaurant there and it's reserved only for the VIP to brag it's extra fresh.

We should be banging those people with the whole range of dystopian dynamics that it reproduces!

What other dystopian classics do you recommend to warn people against solarpunk fail?

#Corporations doing A/B testing on the users without informed #consent should be recognized as doing Dr Mengele kind of thing. #Google redirecting road traffic or Facebook experimenting with showing different kind of stuff, that's all nonconsensual human experimentation. Nazi shit.

Once you get to know some people from the #solarpunk future more closely, it becomes clear that they have made much bigger advancements in the field of #humanities than in the field of #science. It's obvious they did the necessary leg work to be where they are, you know? I think it shows that solarpunk is a #socialScienceFiction not just #scifi

Toys alone won't get you to the #utopia, you know? The system separates the humanities out because they want their engineers to be clueless. They want people who'd optimize the Holocaust because it's a fun logistics problem or build #NFT software to scam vulnerable people out of their last savings because they are in it for the tech. Humanities are just as valid as #stem. Since they are so suppressed now, maybe even more until we get them up to speed again.

Any #romani people here? I want to depict romani ppl in a #scifi #solarpunk novel. At the same time I want to avoid both romanticizing and stereotyping. There's a long history of media doing both. If you have any advice on how to be respectful and cool about it, that would be great.

So far my idea is for the romani to keep being traveling, but instead of coaches there will be plasma vacuum zeppelins. I want them to have colorfully painted gondolas. I also want an old woman to correct a false prophecy, calling on a thousand of years of cultural experience in divination vs wannabies gadjos.

Is that okay? Any suggestions? Is the word #gypsy offensive? Do you maybe have any resources on how to actually be respectful?

Damn, I hope there are some romani ppl here ^^`

Typy jakie mamy to damka, góral, tandem, kolarka i składak.

Prezentuję moje pomysły.

Ramka - metonimia na rower z ramą typu diament, analog określenia damka. Redukuje patriarchalny sznyt z języka, gdzie domyślny rower to rower męski. Ot, ramka i damka, dwa podstawowe typy rowerów.

IRBs are a vital mechanism for ensuring that research has respect for persons and avoids causing harm.

But they are woefully unprepared for dealing with CS research.

Folks at Stanford and Google ran an experiment where the basically A/B tested car congestion in cities by tweaking the routing weights in Google Maps. Without informing anyone, and without consent.

Now: their results are cool! They do suggest that this can be a good way to ease automobile traffic! It can save time and emissions!

But check out this part of the paper:

"The study protocol and data use were reviewed by the Stanford University Institutional Review Board (IRB). Based on the analysis involving exclusively non-identifiable data, the IRB determined that this work does not meet the definition of research involving human subjects as defined in 45 CFR 46.102 or 21 CFR 50.3, and therefore did not require formal IRB review."

What are we even doing here if changing the traffic patterns of entire cities does not have "human subjects"

At some point I might find myself not running GNU/Linux but just GNU. That's a weird thought

Right before the #YearOfLinuxDesktop was about to get serious, #Linus decided to stop being an alternative and call it off. Letting his burn out win, compromising the value.

Is there an LLM free #linux #fork already? Where do I get it? #ZenKernel maybe?
