Becky Chambers (who has a new book out!) says the right things about generative AI in this zine.
"As long as there are people who want to read books written from scratch, I will keep writing books from scratch. That is a hard and fast promise."

I’m super happy with how the iron oxide wash brings out the texture of my plates!
Now I just need to do is glaze and fire—then I’ll FINALLY see the results of a project (bisque molds) I started a month or so ago.
Ceramics is a lesson in patience.

Osa is an absolute treasure!!!
so many things can go wrong with ceramics--especially an experimental wood fire.
I was lucky to have a great team. We worked hard, learned a lot, and hit our temperature...and the pots look pretty good!
I hope they had as much fun as I did, because I can't wait to fire that kiln again!!

We did it!!!
Wood fired rocket kiln- we made it to a toasty cone 6 maybe cone 7 in 4 hours. We wanted to do it in 2 and a half hours, but ash built up in the secondary airflow-it took a while to realize and fix it.
I also learned about teamwork-most of my work is alone in my studio-this has been really good for me
A big thank you to everyone for coming together to do this! Art builds community!
We are making progress on our “Rocket Kiln”!
Our plan is to finish the build today, then test fire Sunday.
I’m extremely grateful to Lisa Orr (look her up if you don’t already know her) for developing and traching this style of firing.
This is not just a more environmentally gentle way to make ceramics-it has also brought my community together. Such a good experience and we have t even made a single pot yet!
Hope you all are having a great weekend!
I brought an old linocut block out (bear with coffee cup) and thought I'd try printing it on STICKER PAPER. it's oil based ink, so
BAD NEWS: it'll take a week or so to dry
GOOD NEWS: they should be waterproof!!
Will let you know how it works out!

I’ve been more withdrawn since the pandemic.
a few months ago I proposed building a wood fired rocket kiln in my community. To get this done, I have been around a LOT of people-building a kiln, teaching newbies to make work for the kiln, I also did a printmaking activity for our historic group.
It may not be much in the big scheme of the world, but getting out there and doing what I can has been really good for my spirit- and I think it’s helped others too.
I’m working on a special clay project with otters. Here’s what I have so far…
Yay! I just finished step 1 of my sheepdog plate. The carving. Now it’s going to dry sloooowly - and then into the kiln!
The dog will look a lot more like a sheepdog once I glaze it with black and white.
This is a new experimental process for me (combining my tile and printmaking techniques for a plate). Can’t wait to see how it turns out.

Ok kiddos! I’m starting to make mistakes (see sheep feet on far right) so it’s time to call it a night.
this is a silly amount of work for a sandwich plate, but It’s been fun carving with you today. Thanks for joining me. Hope to finish the carving part tomorrow!

I'm happy to have the roof of the house carved out, with the three sheep. All that is left is the sheep dog, who is the star of the show.
There is a sweet spot between being too wet and too dry and right now, I'm on the borderline of being too dry. So I am going to Wrap it up in plastic again and hopefully rehydrate the clay so that I could do some more work.

Platter feels just a little bit flaky and chalky. I'd like it to be just a little softer than it is right now.
So I'm going to mist it and wrap it up in plastic so it can rest and some moisture can return to the plate.
