`Critics praised it not just as a film score but as a work of art in its own right. In France, it reinforced Miles’ status as the embodiment of modern cool. In the United States, it caught the attention of musicians interested in new harmonic ideas.`
"Films with women in both directing and screenwriting roles matched male-only returns while operating on approximately half the budget."
OK... here's something beautiful to watch... the winners and honorable mentions of Nikon's 2026 Small World videos competition. I could get lost in here... https://www.nikonsmallworld.com/
the swing feel is basically an interpolation of 4:4 and 6:8
what a duo! with Django behind the scenes... wow

here's a cleaned up version, with a bug fixed and axis labels suppressed to reduce clutter
i had originally written off these 3D isosurface overlays as being too much of a pain to get dialed in, but after some tinkering i think they're growing on me! :)

in 20 years, if you told someone "there was once a time when the biggest news was that 3G phones had customizable ringtones with their own specific format, spawning an entire new and short-lived industry", they'd probably have a hard time relating
`We demonstrate our proposal with a 70-qubit, depth-70 Clifford circuit doped with 468 T gates. We use a total of 97 physical qubits to encode this computation in spacetime codes, effectively suppressing gate error rates by 10× after syndrome post-selection, and yielding a state with a fidelity lower bound of 0.284 with 95% confidence.`
`A new species, Chlorocytus papahemii sp. nov. (Pteromalidae), a hyperparasitoid of E. curculionum, is described from China. Illustrations and a detailed morphological description of the new species, as well as a redescription of the types of related Chlorocytus species, are provided. ` http://dx.doi.org/10.3897/zookeys.1279.188643

`Under conditions favorable for bacterial growth, the bacteria accepted glycerol as a source of food. “After 130 days, only around 5 percent of the uranium dissolved in the water remained in the samples,” says Newman-Portela. “We suspected that the bacteria had incorporated the uranium in their cell walls. We already knew about accumulation processes from the literature.” & indeed, the researchers were able to prove the existence of uranium in the bacteria’s cell walls` https://www.hzdr.de/db/Cms?pOid=78117&pNid=3438
uranium powered bacteria? :-P
`Microbial community analysis reveals enrichment of fermentative and sulphate-reducing taxa, consistent with redox conditions favouring U reduction. By demonstrating the stability of immobilised U(V) alongside U(IV), this work advances the understanding of uranium biogeochemistry and offers new insights for sustainable remediation strategies.`

`..also popularized by Buckminster Fuller..who authored the 1968 book Operating Manual for Spaceship Earth. This quotation, referring to fossil fuels, reflects his approach: "... we can make all of humanity successful through science's world-engulfing industrial evolution provided that we are not so foolish as to continue to exhaust in a split second of astronomical history the orderly energy savings of billions of years' energy conservation aboard our Spaceship Earth."`

after months of nonstop coding & report writing, as well as intensive bass guitar playing and long phone calls my left arm has developed chronic pain & tightness near the base of where the flexor muscles which run down the back of the hand to the elbow. it's improving but I think upgrading my keyboard from one with soft/rubbery key action (kensington ergo) one to a spring-loaded one might help!
this one is on sale, i ordered it last week and it just shipped :)

here's a bot "model diff" use-case i'd be willing to consider: reframe The Buzzword in terms of a comparison between human & machine output. If, upon observing some new data, a given human-designed model produces equivalent predictions to that of any number of machine models trained on historical data, regardless of how many parameters or GPUs the training involved, then that gives you some information about how much novelty was contained in the new data obtained. #data #science #buzzword #stats
