In between all the other stuff I did manage to prepare for version seven of my setup, combining the approach of version five with some wisdom acquired through version six.

Please let me know of any other experimental film/video PeerTube instances if you know of any.
Also happy to answer questions if you have them.
Happy to present my brand new PeerTube instance at https://video.joostrekveld.net . So much better in all respects than the overpriced and underwhelming commercial alternatives that I was using before !
So far I can really recommend this to all my filmmaker friends: migrate over to the non-technofascist side, host your work (and previews) on your own PeerTube instance and let us federate !
Very interesting exhibition in Eye Amsterdam of 10 works adressing imagery from colonial times. Pictured a great scene from the work by Paula Albuquerque.
Some time ago I read a short piece/blogpost type text making the comparison between AI and spiritism, debunking the 'you have obviously not tried AI yourself' argument. It was a great text but I can't possibly find it again...
Would anybody know which text I am referring to ? It is not terribly recent and perhaps a bit of a classic.
Websearches on ai and spiritism open up a crack in oozy-woozy-spacetime that I would like to avoid being close to..
Cracked paint speculatively restructuring France.
What a great piece !

For those in Brussels who are interested in such things: Hold the date !
On the 10th, 12th and 13th of September, the friendly people of Cinema Nova will be screening many of my films, including the most recent feature-length one (pictured). There will be a small exhibition of plots, prints and devices, and also an event around the "Liberate the Machines !" book. Looking forward to seeing you there !

It contains a long and great essay tracing the parallels between the programming of labour and the programming of computation, strongly resonant with Pasquinelli's book but different.
Also a series of six inspiring 'protocols of permacomputational self-defense' against said laborious informatics, among which a 'human perceptron' that triggers the imagination.
And finally the French translation of Francis Hunger's "Unhype A'I' !"

Just out and just in: a beautiful book by the collective RYBN.ORG on the 'history of laborious informatics'.

Four crude circuit board additions that give a serial port to each of these Tektronix 7M13 modules from the early 1970s; now I can animate their electronic text display without having to use 228 pushbuttons.
Recently out and just in, what seems to be an excellent book on how negotiating technologies is negotiating what it is to be human.
It seems that the techniques proposed in the US were electromechanical up to 1956 (a collection of techniques that look amazing in themselves). It would be surprising that the US would be almost a decade behind in going fully electronic, and it may very well be that I missed something and that this first impression is wrong.
A rabbit-hole that exerts a strong pull, but so far I have been able to resist it: the history of techniques to display alphanumeric characters on cathode ray tubes.
This picture may very well be from the first fully electronic method proposed, invented at the Automatic Telephone and Electric Company in Liverpool in 1947. All glyphs are generated from sine-wave-like curves, truncated in different ways.

A painful read from April, in the meantime the book has come out.
Slowly wrapping my mind around how to work with text on an analogue XY-display.

"Art is weaker than nature and does not overtake it, however much it labors. Therefore let the artificers of alchemy know that the species of metals can not be transmuted".
Part of a fascinating (and still ongoing) discussion the early stages of which I had no idea about, on the merits and limits of imitating, emulating or perfecting nature.
Fragment of an early 14th century French manuscript of a Latin translation of Ibn Sina's small treatise on "The Congealment and Concretion of Stones", written in Arabic around the year 1000. Last lines on the page contain the influential "sciant artifices" passage with his most direct critique of alchemy.

Never did I suspect that this would turn me into one of the protagonists of one of the chapters of a book.
The book is a great study of the life of scientific film about fluid dynamics that was made almost exactly a century ago by Ludwig Prandtl in Göttingen. In 2003 I encountered this film in the archive of the Eye Filmmuseum in Amsterdam and because it was so great I programmed it in the "4D" event I curated there in 2004, and in several later programmes that combined experimental films with films from scientific experiments.
