Also, the neural network architecture I'm using on my board game means it has to figure out which spots on the board are next to each other from error gradients rather than from the model's inductive biases.
I have been doing something with q-learning and I only recently realised why it wasn't behaving the way I expected: the function the q network initially learns to approximate isn't a fuzzy version of the function it's ultimately supposed to learn but a "predict the reward in 1 timestep" function which then gets bootstrapped into a "predict the reward across the next 2 timesteps" function, etc.

Anyone want to help me with Doggerland? Or the #HaikuOS people with Haiku? Or the #RedoxOS people with Redox?
T.I.L. that if you renew a New Zealand passport close enough to an election they send it with a leaflet about how to vote from overseas.
I am at a playground with the kiddos and I can smell glyphosate.
Just had a job interview that went well.
I remember as late as 2011 exchanging email with friends, and some of what was in those emails just being general things going on in our lives. But I unless I missed something in my quick scroll just now haven't received a personal email since 2020.
The "Seek" app by iNaturalist is telling me "You observed a new species! Uliodon albopunctatus"
It's only been a few minutes but apart from having to redo a few settings I have yet to discover a downside.
Just switched my desktop environment from Cinnamon to Mate and noticed two things:
1: ibus (the thing I need to type Chinese when using Linux) suddenly works properly instead of needing to run stuff in the terminal to switch between Chinese and English.
2. It doesn't use 30% of my CPU when idle.
Yesterday I was at the doctor and it turns out that my weight in kilograms and my height in centimetres both end in 8.
Just finished a skill test for a prospective employer and the automated report at the end said I'm in the top 1% of test-takers. Got full marks for the python, JavaScript, SQL, and a couple of other sections. Lost a few marks on the DevOps section but nothing drastic. I have a slight suspicion I lost a mark for answering `git checkout -b` where the expected answer was probably `git branch -c`.
A while ago I did a particularly good job of petting one of them while he was leaning over my left elbow and now he always wants to lean over my left elbow.
Sharing is caring.

Lemony was the more reserved of our guinea pigs when we got them a couple of weeks ago but now if I pet him for a while he starts squealing and squirming in delight.

The other day I was fixing my fence after the storm and accidentally hit my finger with a hammer.
This is only a video because of all the places (including Mastodon) that only accept audio uploads if there's a video track with it. (And for some reason it's not letting me add alt text: video is of me petting a guinea pig and he's got a lot to say about the experience)
The genetic variation that makes his fur that pattern is reportedly a New Zealand exclusive thing (New Zealand Tweed)
One of the kiddos prefers to spend more time cuddling guinea pigs than the other does, and they each have a different primary guinea pig, so I end up spending more time with Lemony than with Fibi.
#GuineaPigsOfMastodon
A disused rabbit enclosure is a depressing thing to have in one's house so we had a little meeting with Mana Cavy Rescue.
Fediverse, meet Lemony and Fibi.
