#FollowerPower : For an office team #chat and (internal and external) video call software, kinda replacing Slack and Zoom for an organisation that already uses #Nextcloud for file sharing, editing and other things, which one would you choose?
(Must be #FOSS, explanations as reply welcome.)
I should be sleeping but instead I'm listening to this excellent #jazz album I recently discovered:
*Black Classical Music from Yussef Dayes*
Love it, but I don't even know if people would classify it as jazz. Perhaps acid jazz?
I've been working on this project behind the scenes since, like, February, and I think I am finally ready to publish it.
🚔🚨 The Surveilled City is a project that covers high-tech police surveillance, smart city technologies that mission creep into policing, and policing-related AI for concerned residents, municipal policymakers, and journalists.
Expect accessible explainers, how-to guides, and related news coverage.

People on the #EUbubble like every day:
The #lawsuit argues that the #sanctions regime is unlawful, because #Trump "went beyond the powers granted by law," "there is no national emergency, the order conflicts with other acts of Congress, and it violates #InternationalLaw."
"The designations issued under the order violate federal administrative law and their constitutional rights to #FreeSpeech, #FreeAssociation, and #DueProcess."
The plaintiffs request that the sanctions regime be struck down as a whole.

I had completely missed this:
Open Society Foundations #OSF together with @humanrightswatch and other orgs, is suing the #Trump admin in court for its sanctions against the #ICC.
"It is unusual for #OpenSociety to sue in its own name. We are doing so because the #sanctions regime impacts us: It has already forced us to suspend work with sanctioned partners, in The Hague and beyond."

The FOSDEM organising team has rejected a proposal for a DEI room at FOSDEM 2027.
I am proposing the FOSDEM Pledge to make up for it.
Will you take the pledge?
"The United States has renewed a warning that it will not lower #tariffs on #EU steel products and a range of other goods unless #Brussels softens its enforcement of the #DigitalMarketsAct #DMA.
The European Commission relayed the message from the #Trump administration to EU capitals at a meeting last week, two people with knowledge of the matter told POLITICO.
The European Commission declined to comment."

Tesla's valuation was always insane and unsustainable. It was never going to dominate the car industry to the degree it needed to keep that valuation. What better way to keep that value is there than making it an "AI" company? Even if, fundamentally, it isn't one?

EU money to support #journalism: €20 million
EU money to build #AI data centres that destroy journalism: €30 BILLION
Priorities. 🤷

EU governments have agreed their position on the #DigitalOmnibus on Data, and AI is at the heart of it.
Under the Irish Presidency, the Council has joined a deregulation project built around a dangerous idea: that Europe’s AI ambitions require feeding an ever-growing appetite for data, even if that means weakening rights people already have.
The first genuinely honest ad for generative AI I've ever seen, from Microsoft / CoPilot
A mediocre white guy sees his non-white colleague getting praised for good work, he asks AI to *literally copy it*, and then he gets all the praise instead:
HUUUUUUUUGE kudos to the PHP core team! Let's get to patching!
People who are sanctioned, like ICC judges investigating war crimes, get cut off from the U.S. — online accounts close, domain names vanish, and credit cards stop working.
Now with the forced shut down of a web host, there's never a better time (or a better reason) to rely less on American tech.
