It’s obviously not the worst situation in the world to be in…

Having really interesting, but low priority work at the same time as having quite rote high priority work is such a hassle

I wonder how much those AI generated pull requests that Palmer Luckey really leaning into the evil supervillian look with that goatee

and then Herbert hoover managed it anyway in a slower, less explicit way

Danny DeVito minifig

As an ex-gnome dev I am aware that my opinion on what they should do is fairly irrelevant but moving as far away from C as they can to a memory safe language(*) would go a long way to reduce the amount of AI security audit problems. Not eliminate all problems but at least it would reduce the silly things that C makes so easy.

I know some people are making the move and that’s great but I think it would need to be a much more wholistic effort.

(* realistically Rust even if I think Swift would be better suited to their needs)

“The act of writing free software is progressive politics” - oof, that hasn’t dated well

My neck is sore, but I’m sure a transatlantic flight will help fix it

what is happening to kde?

I'm not sure how rust managed it, but it made using multiple files even more awkward than in C. Good job, I guess.

Is there an analogy for the paradox of tolerance to apply to the commons - the commons must be open to all, except those who would seek to destroy it?

Yey, with fuel already £2 a litre there’s gonna be some hefty profits for the oil barons this Christmas

Trying to think of advances in tech over the last decade or so that genuinely improved my life and HiDPI screens and AirDrop are all I can take think of.

After season one of Andor moving at an incredible clip, season two has spent a fucking age on some bit character’s wedding.

So I guess I missed what IA have done bad this week.

Can someone who was around in the mid 90s explain how ESR came to be a thing. Because he’s not a good enough coder to cover up his obnoxious personality, and his MO seemed to be to join an important project and drive other contributors away (just read Thomas Dickey’s NCurses history). CatB isn’t very good but he was A Thing before it too.

You can’t point at sept11 and say that changed him because he was already toxic before that

I’m a big guitarist now, though I am surprised that the 1x12 cab is essentially the same size as the 2x12 combo beside it.

> But instead [the judge] dismissed [Greenstein's] eloquent, damning address to the jury as a “rambling speech delivered by an old man”

Judges just have free reign to do whatever the fuck they want, don't they?

FreeBSD seems like it has a fair share of LLM pilled techbros too, so I’d be wary of any saviour.

In the good old days, the before time, the effort necessary to do a thing was the bulwark against needless scope creep but now everything costs the same effort so everything is a valid feature
