Ok hear me out...

The Kazakh flag fuckin' rules. I wish the Irish flag had an emblem on it (would probably be a harp, much less cool than a sun and an eagle but still) and some celtic knot stuff.

People talking about Irish spelling being "weird" because the pronunciation of certain letters or groups of letters differs from their expectations as English speakers will never not get my hackles up

Look at Ennis, the real capital 😳

I love the archipelago maps, and I love these islands. I was three turns away from having the great wall built and it looked badass, but then America stole it :try_not_to_cry:

Playing Civ 5 as England but changing the city names to Irish ones so everybody knows what's what

My longest blog post ever by a long way (though there are a lot of excerpts from the book). Been working on it since January! Absolutely sick of thinking about this book now 😅

I posted some of my thoughts about The Moon is a Harsh Mistress on my blog, mostly focused on its politics.

Search engines will just ignore half your query now when it's not something they want to deal with, I love that

Launching their new social network, W, a group in the EU posted a map of where other social networks are hosted. It showed nothing in Europe.

But their map is wrong.

Here's what Mastodon actually looks like, and what the Fediverse as a whole actually looks like.

Finally started the process of migrating my repositories off of GitHub. There's not much of significance to anybody else, so I think it will be straightforward. Public stuff to #Codeberg and private stuff to a self-hosted #Forgejo I think (have not set that up yet).

I don't really like writing about politics much because everything I have to say seems very "Socialism 101" to me. I have a Framework a few years now and I'm disappointed in them, but I didn't want to just summarise the situation because 1) plenty of people have done that, and 2) it is an opportunity to talk about a more fundamental problem.

Some reflections on what tech companies actually value, with reference to Framework’s recent sponsorship choices, but really more generally than that.

I'm kind of interested in trying #Linux on a phone suddenly, just because I think I should be able to do whatever I want with my phone same as I can with my computer.

I discovered you can run #postmarketos in qemu so I did that. Only got the regular Gnome and Phosh UIs working and the latter seems alright except it doesn't maximise apps when you open them. No luck with Plasma or gnome-mobile so far...

One thing I'm really enjoying after degoogling my email is maintaining an empty inbox. "Search don't sort" was a mistake I think, especially now that search doesn't even work anymore.

Back to working on planets, and I adapted my shader so that I can put sprites on the surface and they will be lit appropriately, and it worked first time??? 😱

He also said that he probably would be shot himself if he did as much public events as Kirk, and he's not afraid of getting shot but it's bad strategy... to get shot. That's why he does more stuff digitally, to strategically avoid getting shot, not because he's afraid.
