One thing I am realizing in the age of ai is how much we were using shortcuts to gauge people's competency. Such cognitive shortcuts can lead to incorrect conclusions in cases of unconscious bias (e.g. English fluency), but in many other cases damn was it useful, like how elegant or awful your slides are. It's hell to sit through beautiful appearing slides that actually make no sense at all.
Only watching cute animal videos on YouTube that are at least 2 years old, because
One thing I have noticed is that in general, people who do not read a lot of LLM output are not very good at recognizing the tells. (Blessed are you to have jobs that aren't requiring interacting with text like this on a daily basis.)
When the articles about hacking AI are themselves obviously written with AI. (That's not to say it's made up, just that it's mind numbing to read.)
The pithy sentence fragments. The unsupported assertions of fact. The article is hard to read, because nobody wrote it. It's not just brain-smoothing -- it's painful.
Extremely pleased to report that after swapping out the SD card, my #Tangara works perfectly. No more skips, and even scrolling the directory list works better. The previous card was a brand new SanDisk Ultra, but it had horrible actual performance and might have been counterfeit. Test your media!
(FYI @jacqueline )
There's so much to complain about these United States of America, but I find it an odd choice that what's trending today is accusing working class servers of skimming your credit card when you pay for your meal. Maybe the experience would be better if you weren't radiating suspicion at the people trying to show you a good time?
We will have a public blog post on this soon, but Mixxx is seeing a large number of ai-based forks and our feelings on them are..........
mixxxed.
It's great to see all this enthusiasm and innovation, but when people put up a GitHub with thousands of lines of vibe coded additions we just can't recommend that people trust them. Usually they are adding features people have been wanting but have been very hard to add because good code is hard!
One of my earliest contributions to Mixxx was establishing the bedrock philosophy of "don't stop the party" -- the worst thing dj software can do is crash during a set. So we have extremely high standards for our contributions and that means we move slowly. It can be frustrating but that's the tradeoff we've chosen.

This is a huge step forward for Mixxx, and I am honored to be chairdog for your favorite DJ's favorite Free DJ software.
Oh my god, these are real, actual slides from a SoftBank presentation. Pulitzer-worthy
New art day! thank you Roksodraws for this wonderful beachy scene!
I 100% understand and support an anti-AI coding stance, but I'm seeing more and more people assert that everyone hates it and it never works. Unlike gen-art, unlike generated legal opinions, generated code is actually starting to produce good results, and more and more of my colleagues are using it, and as I review the code they produce, I can't just dismiss it as slop.
I'm not asking anyone to change their opinion or abandon the fight against AI. I'm just warning that asserting that "everyone hates it and it doesn't work" is ... increasingly incorrect. Effective arguments need to speak to the reality of the situation.
And when someone tries to help they are given kind of a brush off. This is a missed opportunity! Someone eager to jump in with a tiny fix could be your next maintainer. No shade to Todd here because the skills to grow a successful open source community are very different than those needed to maintain the code. The easiest answer is probably yeah, someone should just hire him and let him do his thing.

This is a stupid question, but why does sudo need hundreds of commits a month? Looking at the commits (https://github.com/sudo-project/sudo/commits/main/?before=ff0b6bebceec5c7d01fd296300125d51325c6ff4+105) it's a lot of little changes and fixes, but it's really hard to follow. (1/2)
neither of my characters are good with computers nor have a "workspace" so dammit I guess I need another OC.

A must read from a citizen in Chicago

Does anyone ( @soatok ? ) know of a good platform for hosting shared secrets for small groups of people? In this case, sharing passwords / account numbers / other secret information for a small nonprofit organization. My initial idea is keybase (https://book.keybase.io/teams) but maybe there's something better out there?
Laelia in an imagined #SolarPunk future. Thank you to https://bsky.app/profile/gnarlyghost.bsky.social for this wonderful vision of a scrappy future.
A blissful icon, by @krysiilys.bsky.social !
Enshittification comes for open source:
Slack is kicking two large open source groups, Cloud Native Computing Foundation and Kubernetes, off of their donated enterprise tier, giving them one week notice to migrate multiple years of data to a new platform before it's all deleted: https://www.cncf.io/blog/2025/06/16/cncf-slack-workspace-changes-coming-on-friday-june-20/
Instead of learning from this experience and not trusting the good will of profit-motivated closed source companies, it looks like both projects will be moving to ... Discord. Because "people know it." Will we never learn?
(Dropped Cory because he's probably getting tons of spam from this. Sorry!)
For #FursuitFriday, a couple of shots taken last @furpocalypseinc by @linglingfennec . The whole series is so so good, thank you!! <3
