squeaky swing bird is somewhere outside my window again. I wish that I could spot which one it is. maybe even get a pic so I could ID what kind of bird makes that sound.

you know, it occurs to me that I forgot to credit Denise M for the photograph.

will she ever see this post? probably not.

will she actually give the tiniest fuck about not being credited? nope.

her husband hosts the open mike and she takes photos to be a part of the family scene there.

last night was Hunter’s birthday. I don’t know where in the hierarchy of the place he fits, but I do know that if you miss a week or two he greets you with a hug and says, “Welcome home.”

me and Ben Freed jamming on one of his original songs at the Valhalla open mike, April 9, 2023. I’m using my new harmonica and it’s the first time in too many years I’ve blown a harp in public.

I’m usually not one to beg for boosts, but this requires the 6 degrees of separation treatment.

I want to migrate to a more musician centric instance. reading all the “official” guides leaves my head spinning. a while ago someone posted a step-by-step process that all fit into one toot. I’m trying to find that toot (or person) with no luck.

if you are or know that person please put me in contact.

if not, please boost this to further the 6 degrees thing.

love y’all like chicken!

once again it’s #BandcampFriday and they’re not taking their percentage of any sales made today.

I’m celebrating as I usually do by tooting my own horn once and spending the rest of the day boosting other folk’s Bandcamp toots. hopefully you’ll find new people who like your kind of music and/or new bands you enjoy.

here’s my lovely new 8 inch splash cymbal, freshly arrived earlier this afternoon. next month at around this time I’ll have to arm to hold it.

that will only leave the somewhat more difficult (and expensive) task of getting a hi-hat and its cymbals, to complete the “mini kit” I’m assembling in order to use live drums in my recordings instead of loops and/or midi.

I must say it looks nicer than the pictures in the catalog. I like good surprises like that.

you hear about the herpetologist who married the mortician?

their monogrammed towels were labeled Hiss and Hearse.

sometimes I just stumble across the finest kind.

this is L.B. and Honey, aka Three Sheets To The Wind.

rock on!

hey! it’s #BandcampFriday again. please do check out my small offerings there and, if you like them, go ahead and buy something. Bandcamp doesn’t take their revenue share today.

a boost would be extremely helpful too. I’m not so famous as to turn down a chance for more folks checking out my tunes.

speaking of boosts, expect to see lots of them from me today, as I discover other Bandcamp musicians in my stream.

another pet peeve. (yeah, I gots lots.)

if you’re linking to an article that requires you to sign up for a “free account” before reading, please put it behind a CW. save people from wasting a click (and their time).

“free account” is paywallese for, “we’re going to spam the fuck out of you for the dubious honor of reading maybe a half dozen of our articles per year.”

dear paywall asses, just take your ad revenue and be happy people are showing up to read your shit.

2nd intro post. (managed to lose my 1st one to the great bit bucket in the sky.)

I play a wide variety of instruments (to one level or another) but top of the list would be:

* ukulele
* harmonica
* washboard
* other percussion incl. hand drums & trap sets.
* 6-string and tenor guitars

I mostly post about music, including sharing videos of the odd music I find online. I like puns. sometimes I urge supporting my artistic endeavors.

mostly I read and enjoy other folks posts.

#introduction

good heavens! I was arguing with myself about whether it was worth posting my bandcamp link, because I haven’t had much luck with the #BandcampFriday thing. I’d just decided I’d boost other folks posts on the subject when my phone announced that someone had purchased one of my EPs from Bandcamp.

maybe it’s like the first rule of Fight Club?

don’t know if they’re on here, but thanks!

and wtf…

if any of y’all are paying attention you’ll have realized that I have a large spectrum of music that I enjoy. even stuff you could legitimately describe as, “That’s really weird, man.” that’s cool.

I find myself really attracted to “throat singing” and the large range of tribal cultures who’ve independently developed similar styles.

made a new video yesterday. it will be going public on Monday. now I’m hoping that Ko-Fi sent a notification to my monthly subscribers. previews of new audio or video I make are one of the perqs of subscribing.

they probably did, but I get nervous without a confirmation from assorted softwares. they’ve bit off great chunks of my time lately.

my sex life is like a Ferrari. (vroom!)

I don’t have a Ferrari either. (*cough* sputter)

earlier this evening I took Rufus out to his first open mike.

he and I both sounded good. I didn’t fuck up any of the tunes I played. I got nice egoboo. it’s all good.

in my entire life (64+ years thus far) I’ve only managed to keep one New Years Resolution, which is why this is the 13th year in a row that I’ve made no New Years Resolutions.

because why set yourself up to fail?

I’m cleaning off stuff I want to keep from an older Samsung Galaxy Tab E. haven’t even fired it up since last May and the tablet my sweetie uses for audiobooks is dying.

I’ve found this recording of me and my late, lamented partner, Andrew “Sketch” Hare doing “Miss Molly,” a 1942 Texas Swing tune written by Cindy Walker, and first recorded that same year by Bob Wills and His Texas Playboys.

we did it in one take onto my Zoom H2 in Sketch’s art studio.

a longish, but hilarious comedy routine by David Sedaris, about Santa, and Christmas traditions in general around the world.
