So I've seen a lot of anecdotes floating around that the Ukrainian strike on Yandex datacenters turned off a bunch of right-wing troll traffic, but does anyone have some more concrete data to support this, like e.g. a timeline of hashtag usage?

Rep Ilhan’s success is a threat to the mediocrity of racists.

I came across a user mentioning the .irish TLD is owned by American capitalists, but that’s only the tip of this iceberg. Since I went down this road of “who is my TLD operator” already, here’s a brief introduction to the Identity Digital / Donuts empire.

Using a country, region or populace is a valid objection to ICANN. The outdoor brand Patagonia wanted .patagonia, but Argentina filed an objection and the brand withdrew their application.

I don’t see a single objection to .irish in the 2014 public comments, which is unfortunate. But a lot of sketchy and questionable things snuck through back then—.zip anyone?

A corporation shouldn’t own a nationality or diaspora TLD.

Where was the ICANN’s GAC (Governmental Advisory Committee)? Well..

Identity Digital, who now operates .irish, is a mess of companies, ironically originally founded in Ireland in 1999, now “operating” in Bellevue, WA, US. It was acquired by Afilias (who then owned irish) and later Donuts. All backed by American PE, Ethos Capital. If that PE firm sounds familiar, they tried to gain private control of .org for $1B in 2021.

And the CEO of this PE firm? Here’s a screenshot of his own LinkedIn, where he was previously ICANN’s President.

Your TLD owner and operator matter. The political control and financial damage a misaligned corporation can inflict is worrisome. My best recommendation is to pursue well governed and protected ccTLDs. Or a non-profit with an aligned mission statement, like .meow.

Lol, if these guys are admitting we're fucked, it's about to jump the fuck off.

What's the best open source alternative to something like an apple air tag or tile? I'm looking for both the device and an app (though it would be great if it worked with gadget bridge or something similar).

Requirements

• open source software (open source hardware is a bonus, but not required)

• non-American company. EU company would be my preference, but also happy to checkout stuff from sellers basically anywhere that isn't the US, Canada, Israel, Russia, or Australia.

• Bonus points if it can also be be queried from a desktop.

• Ideally not hyper expensive, because I want to buy several of them.

It's ok to suggest lora stuff, but keep in mind, I forget my meshtastic devices all the time too :blob_grinning_sweat:

I want to buy a few to stick on my phone, keys, backpack, and other significantly important items. I also want to gift a bunch to my partner, since they also lose stuff all the time.

I used to love Tile, but after mine went out of date and stopped being supported, I threw them in the e-waste like... a decade ago and never revisited the problem because I was bitter that they became useless. I'm hoping that something open source will have a longer shelf life than like... 1-2 years.

#German friends: what is the best curry ketchup brand? Is it Hela?

"Whatever you do, don't use the break room on this floor," warned my co-workers, "We all use the one a floor up."

I'd heard the same from the assistant manager.

I was clearly being pranked as the newbie. There were only stairs up to the next floor.

Lunch time came. Everyone was committed to the bit, heading for the stairs.

I waited then traipsed to the break room. It was warm, slightly humid, the floor was oddly squishy as I stepped

oh btw even local LLMs can be "manchurian candidate'd" which is why the training process must become replicable. but we haven't gotten to this level of security awareness yet.

My job for eight seasons was to find the most corrupt guys in America and turn their ridiculous evil into television, and I gotta say Paxton is a standout for being *comical* levels of corrupt. I’d say he has swagger but I think he’s just dumb & lazy because the (R) after his name is gold in Texas.

Please be aware that Notify913163 @ social.vivaldi.net is sending bogus admin messages claiming that unusual behavior is detected. The links it sends ask for credit card information in order to restore accounts.

Don't click on any links it sends. This is a common scam on the fediverse.
