14 years in, someone finally made a FCP7 -> FCPX converter.

Nearly two-thirds of Apple’s revenue comes from outside the US, yet so many features and services remain US-only or English-only. How long can Apple keep treating the customers behind most of its revenue as an afterthought? A global company should act like one. If this continues, more people will start seeing Apple very differently.

From Avid:

“Regarding the upgrade, unfortunately, Media Composer | Ultimate for Teams - Annual Subscription is not eligible to upgrade to Media Composer Enterprise.”

Can Avid get any worse?

If you are also fed up with Siri AI

A lot of YouTubers saying Siri AI is really good and I’m getting an experience worse than before, far worse. What have I been asking Siri? To play some music, play songs like this, dictating “megabits” and it writes “megabytes”… you know, literally the most basic.

Going on media blackout now. See you all tomorrow after the keynote! I have been able to avoid almost every rumor so far and I want to watch the keynote as if it were 2007. Call me fanboy, but I love discovering what’s coming this way. A lot of people put a lot of effort on that keynote and everything being announced, I find it appalling for the press/bloggers to take this away from them.

I’m fighting with the need my body has for time off and my brain saying there’s too much to do.

“What’s the time?” Or “What time it is” while offline return a “I’m having trouble with the connection right now”. In my book that’s a regression.

New Siri is terrible and there’s no way to go back to the previous one, that although was dumb, some stuff worked.

Who here remembers when Apple advertised Speech-to-text was done locally? I’m thinking about that because right now it looks like they went back to cloud for whatever reason.

I think it would be great to have alternatives. With app intents and a bunch of other APIs, potentially MCP style stuff on the iPhone, we could certainly run something locally.

I may or may not be releasing a competitor of Plex in the coming days 👀

Got tired of:
- the same UI for many many many years
- having to use their identity system
- transport quality/consistency

The soup of letters:
- OIDC support
- HLS transport
- Pre-warm up (this is a really good one!)

This last one in the list is the attempt to make your private catalog access few even faster! Transport is done as HLS with 2s segments for very low time to first frame, but, that may still take a couple of seconds between the transcoded doing the remux to HLS, so. I added an option for the server to automatically create the previous 2min and the next 2min of the HLS segments for the titles that are in your “Continue watching”, “Up next” and latest titles. That means that the time between pressing play and the image playing on your screen is REALLY low.

Also, we store stuff in NAS, right? But powerful transcode engines don’t live where the storage is, so what do we do? We mount the NAS over AFP/SMB/NFS. But then, the server needs to read through the file list for changes semi-frequently and that causes unneeded network traffic and wear on the disks. Hold my beer 🍺!

There’s an indexer application that runs on docker on the NAS and reads the file system event changes to know when something was added. That’s the indexer knowing about changes in seconds. The indexer keeps a local DB and simply sends text to the server “this is the new title and you can find it here”. No scans, no huge sustained file scans over the network just to find one file.

2026 budget has been approved:

Mac Studio M5 Ultra
36-core CPU / 80-core GPU
512 GB unified memory
1 TB SSD
10Gb Ethernet

A good replacement for my current “desktop”: MBP M2 Max, 64GB RAM and 8TB SSD. Very likely this MBP will become some sort of server.

I’m soon moving to another country and I’ll need to sell a lot of my stuff. Does anyone know a good simple self-hosted solution to have some sort of online marketplace? It doesn’t need to deal with payments as that part will be done in person, it just needs to be able to show multiple pictures of the items, description and a way for someone to reserve it and pass along their details to arrange delivery/pickup.

I have moved all my main chats to @delta@chaos.social. My whole family is there and the friends I communicate most often as well.

In order to help with information regarding setting up a chatmail relay server, I decided to take a stab at writing an easy step-by-step guide based on the official documentation and made a video to go along with it.

Feel free to share along!

If you store files in a cloud service, do you have the contact of a person at the cloud service provider that you can reach out?
Imagine something went terribly wrong, how do you get help?

Please share and boost if possible

Hey fediverse — I have some exciting news to share.

Over the past few years, I’ve been running a private cloud platform called BaezCloud, originally just for my own clients — fast, secure, privacy-respecting infrastructure tailored to real-world creative workflows.

What started as a personal solution grew into something bigger than I expected. And today, I’m proud to announce that it’s become its own fully independent company:
Nuvon is officially live.

Nuvon is a privacy-first, EU-hosted cloud infrastructure provider built from scratch with simplicity, transparency, and control at its core. We’re fully self-funded, running our own servers (no third-party “cloud”), and committed to serving individuals and small teams — not just enterprise whales.

At launch, we’re offering:
• Nuvon Drive – encrypted file sync & team cloud drive
• Nuvon SafeBackup – automated, secure server + endpoint backup
• Nuvon Photos – private photo hosting

Under the hood, we operate a serious Synology infrastructure, hosted in datacenters in the Czech Republic, currently with dual 25Gbps uplinks and loads of available bandwidth and capacity.
No throttling. No transfer limits. Just raw speed and control — the way it should be.

Because of our Synology ecosystem, we also offer seamless integration for anyone already using Synology NAS. We can extend your internal setup to remote collaborators and freelancers without sacrificing security or performance — or clogging your own pipe.

And for editors and creatives:
If you’re using Postlab, our cloud storage is already fully supported and certified. So whether you’re syncing a team project or backing up your production files, you can trust it’ll just work.

If any of this sounds useful, I’d love to chat.
You can DM me or book a quick intro call here:

Thanks to everyone who supported BaezCloud along the way.
Nuvon is just getting started — and we’re building it for people like you.

👨‍💻 Over the years, I’ve learned a lot from trial, error, and a few coffee-fueled rabbit holes while setting up all my self-hosted services. ☕⚙️

Now I’m wondering… would anyone be interested if I started sharing tutorials?

Could be:
📝 Blog posts
🎥 Video walk-throughs
📦 Docker setups
🛠️ Reverse proxy tricks, identity management, and more

Everything from “click here” beginner guides to advanced stuff like SSO with Authentik or federated Matrix!

Let me know what you’d like to see — and if there’s enough interest, I’ll start posting! 🙌
