I've never really enjoyed running before but i'm starting to now. I think it's just plugging away and not caring about the results. running in nicer places is helping too, definitely makes it easier.

I reckon it's a lifetime PB, but new best 1000m time of 5:17 achieved at age 48

Just saw some of the riskiest behaviour I've ever seen in my life: at the urinal at Central station, guy next to me put his phone on top of the trough

Put me down as someone who thinks the phrase "Digital Twin" is buzzword bullshit indistinguishable from a "model".

Update: I ate too much focaccia

Focaccia incoming. Final proof in the car which is toasty warm and bird/moth proof

I lock eyes
"So your reason to never buy an electric car is that 8 years ago in another country you saw a lot of cars and someone told you the government didn't know what to do with them and as a result you will never buy an electric car. Is that right?' maintaining eye contact.
'um, yes?'
"Cool man makes perfect sense"

I've worked in electric vehicle stuff since 2014 and I'm still in awe of the reasons people have for rejecting EVs out of hand. Dropped the Leaf of for rego inspection. (5th year running no maintenance)
I say to the mechanic "good little car that. Cheap as anything to run and no maintenance"
'oh I'll never buy an electric car'
"Oh? Why's that?"
'in 2018, I was in China for work. Stayed in this hotel..across the road was a big lot with 24,000 evs in it the government didn't know what to do with '

I've been enjoying "Trail Running" recently. Basically doing bushwalks as fast as possible. Did the (Bluies) Grand Canyon last week and there's lots of good stuff around the conservation hut in Wentworth Falls

I am starting to think that coffee roasters are pretty much like bakers. Yes they can be very good. But there's probably one nearby that's close to as good as the best in the country, and it's cheaper and closer. I've had loads of 4 star beans from all over the country, and 5 stars are usually a fleeting moment in freshness and time.

Was filling in a vendor verification thing for a customer. Normal stuff. It gets to the bank account and suggests entering my user ID and password for online banking so they can confirm it. Seriously? Is anyone doing that?

Plus there's a fully catered harbour cruise tonight which I'm skipping.

CATL must be printing money in Australia. At a tech day today, 300 people, Sofitel hotel, fully catered.

Mastodon is part of that movement. Decentralised, unserious, noncorporate. Sandwich toots. I'm seeing it in other places too. Folks on Birdsite going back to WeirdTweets and banal nonsense, and folks love it. In an age when it's easy to get a computer to spout beige nonsense to infinity, lumps of sincere humanity are appreciated.
Tell me about your sandwiches.

My Ages of Internet.
Internet 1.0: Blogs, personal web pages, IRC, maybe MySpace? Napster?
2.0: Commercialisation; Amazon, eBay, Twitter, Facebook, PayPal
3.0 Corporatisation of those spaces; Official Twitter accounts, Brands arguing about things, people representing their Work when on the internet
4.0 Slop: content through the roof, sincerity through the floor. You constantly wonder if what you're looking at is real.

I think 5.0 will be the rejection of Slop, and the embrace of Sincerity again

Which is probably true, mostly because I lack the ability to work in big bullshit corporations. it was a stretch back then

The job I did at Tesla 12 years ago is open again, LinkedIn informed me
They've got an automated Skills Match ai thing and my skills match for this position is Very Low.

When you're in a dumb job: I have half an hour free, I'll do dumb stuff on the internet and pretend I'm working on Slack
When you work for yourself: I have half an hour free I'm going to dig up more Agapanthus

Bad Jobs are insidious. It was genuinely dragging me down across the board.

This week I'm going to represent our startup at a conference. This would have previously filled me with dread and boredom, but now I'm excited!

Maybe depressives know this already, but I'm finding Motivation to be a global attribute, not a topic specific one. An example.
I was in a very boring job. Found it completely demotivating, absolutely no drive to do better. And I didn't realise at the time, that meant i didn't have motivation to do other things I actually wanted to do.
Now that I've quite though, my motivation is up across the board. Working on my startup loads and enjoying it, doing gardening and cooking.
