your periodic reminder that the relatively low official death count from ICE has not been for any lack of trying, feel free to follow the quoted post through to the OP if you have any doubt of this

(content warning: extremely graphic if you choose to do so)

article contains surprisingly useful (successfully practiced!) advice for pressure campaigns in general

uh. does anyone know if this is a good sign

especially, given the current conversation about the project to replace all IT-related labor with a system suceptible to centralized control

(as always, poorly, but they're hoping people won't notice for just long enough that it'll work)

interesting (paywalled, but bypassable if you use reader mode) article which buries the lede on a lot of fun* tidbits of information, such as:

AI usurping trained civil servants as trusted sources of information for lawmakers

and these things writing laws

a model for a sentiment-manipulation attack wherein the kremlin pops up tens of thousands of websites and lets them get scraped by trainer bots in order to inject anything they want into the output

it seemed like a timely thing to bring up,

I really love designing tabulation machines here at IBM. Such cool technology. I'm not really exposed to the sales side but hear there's a lot of demand from Europe, Germany maybe? Anyway, super-fun technology to work on.

Somewhat overlooked in the Epstein emails are his communications with Larry Summers, former president of Harvard and still faculty there, about how to sleep with a woman that he was mentoring. They called her “peril” as in yellow peril because she’s Chinese. He writes that he commented on her clothes and asked her out to drinks but she declined. He writes: “She must be very confused or maybe wants to cut me off but wants professional connection a lot and so holds to it,” SO HE KNEW HIS BEHAVIOR WAS INAPPROPRIATE AND KEPT DOING IT ANYWAY. This is just all so typical of academia. Also these emails were exchanged in 2019 in case you were thinking that this was just behavior of the past.

transgender for everybody

everybody transgender

judging from my (entirely anecdotal) observed base rate of people treating people badly

if your community doesn't have a safe and effective way to separate people who will cause harm, then you probably don't know about it and it's probably everywhere

mastodon actually needs the quote post so that valid criticism from an outside context can be received by the original poster in a form that does not involve rocket-propelled high explosives sent by an unrelated third party

with respect to replies i may have made that got boosted:

if i'm the first place you've heard a good idea from, great! i probably don't do that for a living, so now that you understand the need, find better sources of information than this,

1. walk into federal building, nobody physically stops you
2. plug your own hardware into federal networking hardware
3. pretend to be federal government

so, the government may at times not be the government

hi! i'm still trying to figure out what a normal amount of post is before you have to apply a content warning to it, and i will do my absolute best as i figure this out, but please be wary in the meantime. i'm sorry. and welcome!

likely nobody will see this, but
is it rude to complain softly about not being able to exist as myself in reality without fear of sudden homelessness?
