If worse is better, why didn't they make worse 2.

Thanks to everyone who came to see the talk!

We have clearly advanced to the next step in the "writing an app for Linux (and abandoning it after 6-12 months)" pipeline. It goes:

To do list → music player → yt-dlp wrapper → Minecraft launcher → chat client → text editor → window manager → mail user agent → …

ah damn, RIP Margaret Hamilton.

she took safety-critical software engineering seriously, and got people to the moon and back.

If a project cannot survive without specific people then that project should not survive.

I have spent more than 20 years making sure my contributions can be replaced, and proposing processes that should survive my presence in a project. I don't plan on living forever, and sure as hell I'm not planning on being irreplaceable. I leave "après moi, le déluge" to egotistical wankers.

It's fine to leave a community because it's not aligned with your strategic outlook or your values, or simply because the community moved on. You joined a community because you were aligned to it, and you can leave when that ceases to be the case. The project is the ship of Theseus, and we are all the rotten planks getting replaced over time.

I swear this is not a sub-toot. I was literally watching this episode and it was funny because I spoiled myself the light novels ahead.

- AI is just a tool, and if you don't know how to use it then it's just a skill issue
- Okay, we mark issues/merge requests generated/assisted by LLM with a "slop" label, so we know where it's coming from
- Why are you singling this type of issues out? This is mildly offensive

Gentle reminder that whatever people write on their blog as syndacated by Planet GNOME is not an official policy or position of the GNOME project, regardless of affiliation or seniority.

Narrator: this did cause more conflict in the future.

I really need to spend some time to get the light/dark style in sync with the night light scheduling inside gnome-control-center for GNOME 52. There are already designs for the UX, so it shouldn't take that long…

Just got back from All Systems Go; lovely conference, and lots of interesting people and presentations. Sadly, I was feeling crummy the day before leaving for Berlin, so I had to mask for most of it, which also prevented me from being more social during the event.

The presentation about Moonforge was well received, which is great.

We've been working on Moonforge for a while, now, so if you want to ask questions about it make sure to drop by!

Unsurprisingly, I agree with this take.
