#tech I have a timeline series of webpages that was created using a JavaScript plugin on WordPress. Client wants to archive those pages. The plugin hasn’t been updated for a bit & has some security issues so we don’t use it any more but just thinking about the best way to archive those pages. Anyone had to do this before? I’m fairly sure the any code will be portable & ok but just curious as to what others would do.
I used to blog a lot more but since socials came along it did go away a bit.
However feeling like a longer form post is worthwhile now so this week I have published an old draft and one new one.
The old one mentions Anthony Bourdain and has a link to one of his last interviews.
Latest features Rebecca Solnit. I wanted to review her essay collection and now she has a new book it seems like a good time to do that.

"In many ways, TikTok represents the apex of socially networked platforms designed explicitly to command human attention and hijack free will. No other app has weaponised the science of persuasion and vulnerable aspects of human psychology so effectively."

Tech Services query here. Are there any NZ domain registrars still operating in NZ that are owned and staffed here?
I loathe dealing with web.com related companies who swallowed umbrella group and messed up about everything they took over.
I liked iwantmnyname but even they seem to have been sold.
Anne Salmond "The proposed draft Treaty principles bill is inflammatory, and polarising. It radically distorts the promises that were exchanged at Waitangi and elsewhere between Queen Victoria and the rangatira of the various hapū." #NZpol
"There are now 3.5 million rooftop installations across Australia, generating 20,000 gigawatt hours of electricity every year."
Paradoxes of getting older. Some days i feel like I could sleep for a week but alas sleeping is not that easy. I have time to enjoy coffee but dare not because sleeping is affected. Also I seem to have become somewhat invisible when I bid for a job or project. The grey hairs mean I know what I’m doing but hullo waving not drowning over here LOL
Question on #NZpol
Because Te Pāti Māori looks to have won 4 electorate seats does this create an overhang for total number of seats. That is will we have 122 seats in parliament or 123? Who knows the calculation on that? Or does that only happen if they also got 5% which they didn't?
Voting day in NZ tomorrow. #votenz
Made another yoghurt cake. My new favourite baking recipe. Can do mix it in less than 10mins now. Apparently all French children know this one LOL. Secret ingredient is full fat plain yoghurt. Made my 5th one today. Even took some to a local community event and watched complete strangers eating it.
I haven't watched regular TV in about 20 years but during elections I sometimes think about it.
Jack Tame seems to be doing some good work and I hate to mention it but this restored my faith just a fraction.

"For too long our accounts of power, persuasion, diplomacy and war have neglected the role that non-state actors like companies have played."
"as long as we allow essential public, intelligence and military systems to be outsourced and controlled by private actors, we risk having lives destroyed and hopes of a better future dashed by the whims of an unstable egomaniac."

"Embattled Qantas boss Alan Joyce will quit immediately, bringing forward his retirement by two months."
A retrospective on Tom Waits driven by the re-mastering and re-issue of 3 of his classic albums. Swordfishtrombones, Rain Dogs and Franks Wild Years from the 1980-1988 period when he got married and shifted into a higher gear. #music #TomWaits
The article also has plenty of gems in the comments too.
I know him more from film collaborations with Jim Jarmusch which dated from around the same time. But will be interested to listen to those albums again.
"The idea that a sedentary lifestyle is linked to poorer health is now well-established, yet, until now, it has been unclear what the optimal number of steps people should aspire to is, or if there is an upper limit beyond which further health gains are minimal."
<Until now>
"O'Sullivan says part of the reason power is so expensive is New Zealand's poor quality housing. She believes the highly deregulated structure of the electricity market, and its focus on profit, is also to blame.
In the last decade, the four largest electricity companies - Contact, Genesis, Meridian and Mercury - increased their profit by more than 150 percent. In that time, their net profit totalled $7.7 billion..."
