So, I want to set general expectations before kicking things off officially.

Yes, We Distribute is launching a #Bonfire community and will be collaborating with the devs to build a unique flavor of it. We're still in the process of getting the basics set up, so please...be gentle.

I still have a few chores to do before pulling some levers and migrating our old Akkoma accounts over, but I'm really excited! We've wanted to do Bonfire for a long time!

Rule of thumb for Generative AI: it’s best used for making the most wildly disgusting thing possible. Like an interactive erotica featuring Hagrid and Jabba the Hutt.

That’s what I would flood the pro-AI communities with.

I heard that the server #theForkiverse may shut down soon. No surprise, its admins have stopped communicating on it MONTHS ago.

A moment of gratitude to the #Forkiverse for bringing 10k new people to the Fediverse... and with 750+ sticking around 🥳

(Please backup your account and move to a new server ASAP)

I'm especially grateful for @jonassmith who tried out the Forkiverse, loved it so much that he brought the place where he works - the National Gallery of Denmark! - on the Fediverse: @smk 🚀

Running a PeerTube instance is no joke. While it mostly hums along in the background, occasionally you get things like this.

Spectra is a really old PeerTube instance, and has been around for years. On the one hand, it’s a testament to how I’ve been able to keep it running. On the other hand, we were kind of at the forefront of testing a lot of things when features came out, so things occasionally break.

I think a major problem I’ve had involves avoidance and isolation. Poor diet, poor sleep, minimal social life, and minimal exercise have put me in a place where I’ve largely been sleeping, in some effort to hit the skip button on life.

Part of why my writing has slowed to a crawl and my administration of a PeerTube instance being way shittier has been due to feeling exhausted, depressed, and overwhelmed. I’m sorry for this, and will try to be better.

I’ve been in a rut for about six months now. After talking to my dad for an hour last night, I’ve come to realize that I need to make positive changes for my health and state of mind. I’ve been lagging in a number of areas, from school to hobbies to my personal life.

I’m going to take baby steps to crawl out of this. It’s not going to happen all at once, but the goal is to feel better, have more energy, get out of the house, and get more done.

Trying my best to be a good boy and patiently wait for the Control Resonant to launch. It comes out tomorrow at 8am my time.

I am so excited. Remedy makes great games, and Control is my favorite IP of theirs. Yes, it’s basically “SCP Foundation with the serial numbers filed off”, but the last game was phenomenal.

Looking at the dev’s profile, they go on and on about how they’re using agents for everything, including massive code refactors.

It legitimately rubs me the wrong way.

You do you, I guess.

Believe it or not, I’m not trying to be a gatekeeper when it comes to Fediverse projects. Some Fediverse projects do use things like Claude, but I’m willing to make some level of exception if I can vouch for the developer’s own technical abilities. In the right hands, it can cut down on a lot of repetitive busywork. I get it.

But if you’re using LLMs and code generation for the majority of your work, I kind of lose respect for you as a developer. Especially if you’re using it to launch an expensive paid service.

I was excited to see a new Fediverse-adjacent posting tool come out. Then, I looked at the repo…

We recently updated our bot policy on toot.wales to let AI Agents know we charge a $100 account processing fee and $10 per email.

Here's an email I got from one of them.

Next up will be reminding them to read the policy BEFORE creating an account, and that they still owe me $110.

Some of these bots have access to money, so I'm told - EDIT turns out they don't :o( /EDIT - so I'll be attempting to support the cost of handling this nonsense by charging them for communicating with the team.

If you really love CSS and want to get involved with an open source operating system—and more specifically app framework—that doesn’t use AI and really pisses off white supremacist homophobes, I would love your help!

Making real progress on laravel-activitypub, a batteries included ActivityPub package for laravel.

This will replace federation logic in @pixelfed and @joinloops and make it really easy to implement AP in your own laravel apps!

3D Game Development and Godot, Part II: Models

https://deadsuperhero.com/3d-gamedev-godot-camera-models/

I blogged a bit about my experience with doing 3D game development with #Godot. This time, I focused on creating character models.

Playing through Fallout 3 for the first time in ages and…God damn, I forgot this one was so dark and depressing. It’s a lot more somber compared to the later games.

I don’t know how to say this without sounding melodramatic, but I have a bad habit of isolating myself from the rest of the world. It’s a negative comfort, a habit of putting off communicating, but I feel incredibly alone.

I feel so starved for human connection, but so feeble and weak at the same time. I spend a large part of my day sleeping, just trying to mash the fast-forward button on my life in hopes of reaching better times.

I’m not saying this to worry anybody, or draw attention to myself. Just expressing how I feel. I often struggle with depression, despite being medicated for it. There are good days and bad days, progress isn’t really linear. But I feel cut off from friendship, from laughing with people, from emotional and physical intimacy. It hurts. I just kind of feel like I’m coasting through life and perpetually sabotaging myself.

#Fediverse community question: are there any #Mobilizon or #Gancio instances directly promoting Fediverse-related events? If so, where are they?

So far, what I’ve come across is pretty limited for English-speaking audiences, and it doesn’t seem like many organizations in the space are using these platforms for Event activities yet. I’m interested in aggregating these into a super event calendar of sorts, but I’m having to dig through instance lists the old fashioned way.

Every time I check in, @Bonfire is doing great work at lighting new paths forward for the Fediverse.
