Hmm, trying to report some obnoxioux spam, but when I hit send it gives a little "404 record not found" bubble? Maybe the accounts have already been removed on the originating servers.

Like, I totally get it! But never in my strangest dreams did I imagine a Dyke bar self-describing as Ballhalla. Surreal!

Look, there are some serious issues involved here, but can we just take a breath

and appreciate

the dyke sports bar that's home for Valkyrie (women's basketball team) fans

that is completely earnestly using the term "Ballhalla" in serious communiques?

Looking for a manual.

manufacturer's website - slow, wasted a minute of my time with their captcha, can't find the product and their search enters a permanent captcha loop (maybe bots have been slamming that input??), search engines surface only unrelated pages. They stopped making this in 2024 or so.

archive.org - search completed immediately, 3 results, each is a crisp PDF of the user manual with live view and a no-hassle one click download link. :green_heart:

Oh wow.

So in California apparently 1 in 29 residents is estimated to be actively infectious with COVID / SARS-CoV-2: https://pmc19.com/map per Dr Mike Hoerger.

Schools have what, 20-30 students per classroom, and high schools usually mix from period to period?

That seems bad?

WTAF. Shame, shame on Metro for publishing lies:

The droplets Covid is hitching a ride on need to enter a person’s eyes, nose or mouth to spread. It doesn’t linger in the air for long enough to be a risk.

Not "lingering" is FALSE. Incontrovertible evidence shows SARS-CoV-2 can spread by aerosols, including after a sick person has left the room.

Washing your hands is one of the best ways to avoid Covid. ... Clean ‘high-touch’ surfaces such as mobile phones and bathroom door handles as well.

This is FALSE. Almost NO cases of SARS-CoV-2 are through touch ("fomite") spread. Even the US CDC at one point estimated only 1 in 10,000 cases were through touch.

🤬 awful reporting. If you live in the UK and want to complain and demand a correction, you can email webnews@metro.co.uk about https://metro.co.uk/2026/10/05/american-covid-bad-29678818/

I was wondering if maybe I'd made a decaf or something. No worries, I'll just make another, easy solution. Grab the mug and - oh, it's full. Well that explains it!

Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaargh!

(deep breath)

AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAARGH!

Can we please stop carelessly spreading precursors of debilitating disease? Please? Please?

At least can we enact protections for kids and schools, since kids aren't intellectually developed enough to risk model? Please?

61-swearing-percent! Aaaaaaaargh!

And this, in the headline!

It’s made getting laid a whole lot harder.

is just - really, you're really going to frame it like that? It's a problem about "getting laid"?!

Wired headline: "no one wants to date tech bros" because of how they "are now widely regarded", as if there's a faddish opinion

Body of article:

23-year-old Gary ... explained to a woman why he took an engineering job at Palantir, ... Raking in a $250,000 salary would allow him to help pay off his parents’ mounting medical bills, he explained.

4 paragraphs later:

sometimes he makes up stories out of thin air to justify working for Palantir—like that line about the medical debt. His parents don’t have any, nor are they ill

Maybe, just MAYBE people don't want to date people like this for reasons beyond perception and regard. Maybe it has to do with what they are ok doing? Lying in a first conversation, working for Palantir - maybe these are not fully separate?

LLMs being integrated into warfare is terrifying. This is how it happens: not with a Terminator or Robocop but with poisoned information with the potential to trigger WWIII. TERRIFYING.

@timnitGebru and @emilymbender point out that this should be bigger news:

A CNN report ... describes how the US “almost started a war” with China, based on an intelligence report that claimed a Chinese ship was transporting components of nuclear weapons. Military personnel made plans ... to board the ship. A military skirmish of this kind between China and the US could quickly escalate and spiral into world war three.

It was only moments before executing on the plan that American officials further investigated the intelligence report and found that it had been generated with the use of a chatbot and contained erroneous information about the vessel’s contents.

Do you ever wonder if maybe the incompetence is a scam? If we're all being distracted by depravity and desensitized to ridiculousness intentionally to keep our attention off important things?

RE: https://c.im/@AskPippa/117259916521910624

As Pippa says, please consider writing RBC, BMO, and your MP if you think that giving the USA jurisdiction over "approximately one in three payment transactions across Canada" is elbows-down and foolish.

Remember "stopped at the border" can mean "flown to a jail in El Salvador, indefinitely."

Canadians' data could be available, not only to foreign governments, but foreign law enforcement agencies.

She gave an example of U.S. border agents potentially checking an individual's transaction history before allowing them to enter the country.

"Will you be stopped at the border because your purchase records indicate that you bought something with THC?" she said, referring to a chemical compound found in cannabis, which remains illegal in the U.S. under federal jurisdiction.

Hey Canadians! 🇨🇦 👋 Have you considered that defunding Canada Post might hurt us?

See how right now de-servicing the USA mail system is used to subvert democracy?

Take note!

I really appreciate that she didn't mince words:

Oracles speak uncomfortable truths and prophecies and living at the margins gives you a certain perspective on the centered normates who do not want their comfortable bubble threatened like the selfish piece of shit David Sedaris who is such a beloved writer

And her interviewer gets it:

I think another way you can put it is that right now we are all engaged in a struggle to normalize masking. Right now, masking, much like the identity of disabled person, chronically ill person, immunocompromised person, is seen as a negative, a deviation from the expected or desired outcome, and as such “normalcy” becomes a tool of devaluation and dehumanization—as well as a tool of social control.

Alice again:

Community care is giving a shit for others ... you are not alone but ableism, like white supremacy, is designed to pit us against each other to fight for the crumbs

Alice Wong can't give interviews any more so please excuse the substack link.

in the January 24th issue of The New Yorker by David Sedaris who wrote, “One of Dawn’s lungs collapsed when she was in her late fifties, so she was super cautious about covid—kept her face covered long after everyone else had returned to normal. We were in Chicago together, at O’Hare, in the spring of 2022, when I told her she needed to take it off. “But—” she said. “Let it go,” I told her. “Everyone else has.” I felt like a director coercing an actress to unhook her bra for a sex scene. “Come on,” I said…She took off her mask, and then of course immediately got covid—a bad case, too. All my fault, but she’s never held it against me.” End quote.

If you're masking, or want to start masking, take heart from these words. Your healthy, wealthy friends are not good risk evaluators, they're following the herd, and your well-being is less important to them than their feeling that you're abiding by cultural norms to not mask:

David Sedaris is one of millions of people who want to travel, go to parties, and forget that high risk people like his friend Dawn exist and would rather her suffer from a COVID infection rather than look at her with a mask. With friends like these, you don’t need enemies

Ancient soothsayers: listen to the owls' cries echo through the trees to foretell what comes
Modern soothsayers: listen to the teens' coughs echo through the buildings to foretell what comes

#MaskUp

Hearing a few younger folks with really turbulent coughs this weekend. They sound really haggard and painful and wet but not (very) productive. Not a good omen, since around here many schools start tomorrow.

This is not a new story. Nelson Mandela — whose statue stands today in Parliament Square, facing the Houses of Parliament — was described by Margaret Thatcher and Ronald Reagan as a terrorist, and the movement he led as a terrorist movement. If this Act had been in force in those decades, that movement would have been proscribed — and anyone in Britain who wrote “we should congratulate them” would have been at risk of standing exactly where I am standing now. Mandela himself said:

“The West sees liberation movements as terrorist movements — and that is why I am accused of supporting terrorism.”

Now let me be precise about what I am saying, because it is not what the prosecution may pretend I am saying. I am not comparing any organisation to Nelson Mandela. The comparison is not between organisations at all. It is between governments — then and now — and how easily they attach the word terrorist to whoever opposes the policy of the day. Today, Mandela is widely admired. The label of terrorism should be applied to those who are terrorists not those who are not.
