Vibe coded software is the digital equivalent of forever chemicals. Hard to get rid of and its long term effects are still unknown. But they look like a miraculously simple and fast solution to a multitude of problems.
Not one, but two hours of music today ! There's a reason to this:

So #Deno has announced today that they've been acqui-hired by #Cloudflare and are going to abandon their #JavaScript runtime. Can't say I didn't see it coming. With #Bun being part of Anthropic and mostly vibe-coded now (it was always slop-coded, if manually in the beginning), I guess y'all need to crawl back to #Node now ;-)
WAVE (1994)

Of all the paintings hanging in my home, this one probably elicits the most comments. It's also a good example of why I am reluctant to say too much about my work. Some people are frightened by it, some view it as peaceful and some are just struck by its abstract qualities. 1/2
"When I first came up with the term [Software Engineering], no one had heard of it before, at least in our world. It was an ongoing joke for a long time. They liked to kid me about my radical ideas. It was a memorable day when one of the most respected hardware gurus explained to everyone in a meeting that he agreed with me that the process of building software should also be considered an engineering discipline, just like with hardware."
I'm playing records on the internet again.

> In times when evil powers are ruling, moderate, centrist, balanced positions end up being enablers. It's time we stop pretending we're saving the world by indulging ourselves with remarkably interesting and useful tech […] a convenient, but a provenly ineffective take. B/c as long as you're playing along, you're playing with the system.
> "Don't obey in advance" – And in the current socio-techno-political environment, what's the most obvious form of obedience, if not... right. You guessed it.
> What place should AI dev have in our list of collective priorities? I struggle to make it to the top 10. In fact, I'm deeply convinced that everyone's life (with the exception of a handful of despicable millionaires and grifters) will be significantly better without it. It's little more than a sophisticated distraction that we're all buying, like we've been buying iPhones […]. B/c someone has succeeded in fabricating needs we didn't have, and now we seem to be unable to do without them.
[2/3]
Good read by @piffio on systems thinking vs AI.
https://makemeacto.cc/how-exactly-is-doing-more-ai-going-to-make-it-better/
Some noteworthy quotes:
> [List of insane AI industry side-effects] And we should get along with all this because why exactly? Because it makes us write more software, faster? That doesn't sound like a strong enough argument. Why do we need more software, exactly? […] Or are we factoring in speculations about potential and unsubstantiated future benefits? Belief is the realm of religion or magical thinking.
[1/3]
If you use an llm to generate a demo, or to convert a game or the outer appearance of an OS from one retro system to another, or to the browser, really all you're showing me is that you spent a lot of time writing prompts and that you gave a substantial amount of money to some really evil companies. It's nothing special, it's not worth reading about, it isn't something creative and it's not a hobby. And it'll probably make me ignore all your future projects.
I'm playing records on the internet again.

Digital Ocean killed its "we give Open Source projects a bit of free hosting" policy basically at the same time they dropped 3 million USD on Omarchy, DHH's (who is a fascist and racist) set of config files he calls a distribution.
This is exactly the kind of "Power Grab" I wrote about a few weeks ago: https://tante.cc/2026/09/11/power-grab/
DHH is working towards accumulating open source funding to be able to direct it towards projects that align with his technical and ideological views.
It's hard to overstate how dangerous that is for all of us.
