I did try to make my Instagram only for art, but if a Black woman shows up on my feed explaining Marxist theory I'm 100% going to follow her, aren't I.
These young folk are amazing.

You can pledge for audiobooks, paperbacks, and ebooks of Reverse Centaur and Enshittification, or even all of them if you've got the budget.
I decided on getting both ebooks, since I haven't got Enshittification yet and there's some ideas in there I want to access in print.
Another round of unfollowing. I wish I could have a scroll of social media that didn't include the most horrifying headlines of today's news.
over on facebook there are constant posts about the incoming heatwave, and on every one there's dozens of utter fuckwits going 'it's just summer' plus or minus 'we had heat like this in the 70s you know' and so on. I aspire to Buddhist equanimity and compassion but I'm ashamed to say that I really wish ill upon these people. I'm so tired of this wilful ignorance.
'Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy' is on. Is there any movie with a bigger cast of British theatre heavyweights?
I'm so very, very, very tired.
When we got home I stood outside and enjoyed the green leaves against the blue sky for a few minutes.
Facebook seems to be becoming like X. Like just don't read the comments on anything, it'shorrendous. I need to stop going on there except to specifically check for social group and local group messages. I wish I could persuade folk to switch platforms.
We don't actually need any more climate scientists or commentators. The end of the world is being astonishingly well documented down to the nth degree. We know exactly what is going on, we're just refusing to act on it.
@Remittancegirl if you feel like it (a distraction, perhaps? but if not, just disregard), I'd be interested to know why you describe yourself as 'Lacanian', why those ideas resonate with you so much. I've a graduate diploma in psychology but haven't really read him. You've piqued my interest.
A PhD is like writing a 70,000 word book that like four people will ever read and you don't get paid for - you will just have arc copies placed on a server.
I've been listening to the Future Ecologies podcast. It's excellent. Engaging storytelling and full of ideas.
