These are tiny ferns, each frond the size of my thumbnail.

It's drunk Robin season, where the American Robins gorge themselves on Hawthorn berries which are likely somewhat "ripe" and then sit around this end of the block and in my yard in a stupor.

So many bird names are also based on male breeding plumage. I’d like to get rid of that too.

Purple dome is not kidding around.

City crows from the kitchen "bird blind," ie, through the kitchen window. I only just noticed the second one.

I'm nearly 50 and I don't answer any calls except from the four contacts in my favorites list. Everything else goes to voicemail by default, my phone doesn't even ring.

I found a nest! An old no-longer-used nest, but a nest nonetheless!

From the size, though it is stretched out and misshapen this late in the season, I think it is a hummingbird nest! Also the poop looks like what I’ve seen on hummingbird nests.

I once cautioned a tree trimmer that a hummingbird may be nesting in a tree he was trimming and he insisted they nested in evergreens.

This is a Bloodgood Japanese maple on a street!

Any other bird ideas other than Anna’s?

Honeybee on Heronswood Mist agastache.

Yes, this is the Heronswood of Puget Sound and the plant developed by Dan Hinkley. It is just as happy in my garden as I had hoped!

Acquired from Annie's Annuals during the heatwave earlier this summer and planted four weeks ago, on July 18, and already full of bloom spikes.

They were *completely* unbothered by me. Two of them were on the porch railing and I walked up the stairs right next to them and they didn't move. I had the hose, which I used to spray off the poop so that it didn't harden and leech the paint surface on the porch which is in full sun. They were slightly offended by the hose water and flew to a nearby tree in my yard. But they're still around and I expect I'll see them out there again tomorrow.

So who has mourning dove info for me? I'm pretty sure I have a family that thinks my front yard or porch is their new hangout. I'm trying to ascertain if who I am seeing is a pair of juveniles, or a nesting pair and a "third wheel".

I shared a photo of just one that I saw on the porch the other day. But today I had one up on my roof and two more on my front porch. As much as I love the attention I don't necessarily want them getting any ideas about nesting on the house somewhere.

A very zoomed-in-through-a-dirty-window dove on my porch railing.

Best I could do out a door window with screendoor while trying not to be seen with my phone!

Two juvenile crows bathing in the water basin and boy were they fun to watch, siblings goofing around and pecking at each other, one trying to bathe the other getting in the way.

They eventually flew up to the fence between my backyard and my neighbor's when a parent appeared, perhaps with food, and they all started preening.
