@rygorous @lindsey “here’s an algorithm that works.” Boooring

“Here’s an algorithm that fails for an interesting reason!” YES

Morning.

Been telling you fuckers since forever: people working with computers need to study industrial health and safety just like any engineer does. Learn obsessively about horrific accidents and disasters until we have nightmares. And start to believe that preventing them matters.

Woodpeckers destroying civilization and all that.

Me verán volver.

Surprise me. Just once, say or do something unexpected and off-character. I know I'm going to die of boredom but does it have to be after endless torture?

(Ángela's evil twin, probably)

Shorter, angrier, still cold and clumsy and aching and uncaffeinated Ángela:

"You know I'm wrong, WTF are we still mutuals!?"

As always the real world is unevenly divided between Nazis, people who may or may not fight the Nazis, and their victims.

Do me this favor: if you know we don't see eye to eye on important shit, block me or at least soft-block me. You don't need me and I don't need the temptation to disagree.

This is an incredibly important thread about sexism in the workplace (and how to make it less brutal) but as an aside: "culture fit" is a huge red flag in queer and ND communities too. No, we don't all listen to the same music or enjoy the same shows or go to the same places or practice the same hobbies. Anyone telling you otherwise is trying to pull a fast one.

Kinda tired of sticking begposts in my followers' faces but it's not like I have a lot of options, do I?

At least it's something I do, not shit that happens to me, like this perpetually wet weather or the various ways my health finds to fail and leave me (and my folks) hanging.

Buenas tardes, miserables.

All this talk about (electric?) metric horsepower versus (pico-? photo(voltaic)?) imperial horsepower confuses and frightens me.

In the 17th century it was space. The 18th opened up chemistry. In the 19th we learned how ignorant we were. In the 20th, how wrong we could still be.

Not depicted for clarity: Europeans discovering how much there was to loot in the 16th, and just about everyone in the 21st building up on that to chase death.

Buenas tardes, miserables.

Morning, fuckers.

Fighting off rape attempts never gets old.

And like riding a bicycle it's damn nearly impossible to forget how to do it. The body remembers.

Hope your day is going better than mine.

Morning, fuckers.

So this person had the brilliant idea of outsourcing parenting to a LLM. Most of the people tell him why that's going to end badly but the historian in the room naturally wonders about their motivation.

Let me explain for the uninitiated:

A significant fraction of parents--mostly men because sexual division of labor--already nope out of caring for their kids. Even to the point of being permanently elsewhere. Going from "let the mother raise them" to "nah, a machine will do it better and maybe I can shape them the way I like" requires just a bit more misogyny and slop-induced brainwashing.

They were never parents in fact. They never thought of themselves as such. They're just sperm donors at best.

What concerns me is people who think so badly of themselves that they say "they will be better off without me". That comes not from becoming criminally negligent and emotionally stunted by patriarchy and capitalism but from depression bordering on suicidal ideation. Persons going through that want to be there for their kids but can't. Even if they're physically present they will be emotionally withdrawn and will do the bare minimum out of irrational fear of doing harm.

These persons and their children will be ideal victims for such a technology if it ever reaches the market.

Yes, I'm a motherfucking riot at parties, why do you ask?

Kinda tired of all the language polls doing the rounds right now. But it looks like monolinguals are a minority here? That doesn't sound right.
