I've never really liked or understood CSS-in-JS, so kind of glad that I didn't spend any mental effort doing so now that the pendulum is swinging back: https://github.blog/engineering/architecture-optimization/improving-site-performance-by-shipping-more-css/
@nat Your recent post on football reminds me of something I've wondered at Seattle Labs - was our success the process or is it actually the people that the process attracts? Also similar to the statistical fallacy where you're just measuring the population density.
@grimalkina Also thanks so much for hosting the meetup - it was a lovely way to spend a few hours!

I thought we didn’t have a lot of art, and we don't, but we have way more than I realized since we also have a whole lotta wall in our current place (townhouse).
A thread of things that I’m learning from my current move.
I wonder if I’ll ever be able to experience my absurd-but-maybe-actually-reasonable desire to have one-repo-per-team in an engineering org. Force ownership lines to be legible.
Oh my god, these are real, actual slides from a SoftBank presentation. Pulitzer-worthy
@Edent 👋 from finding RSS Club
I do have a feeling that we’re not far off from prompt injections being background radiation of the internet in the same way that port scanning and automated hacking and the like is nowadays.
Love the elimination of “just” in curl: https://github.com/curl/curl/pull/20793
Our default stance in the Seattle Labs office was that anyone who used “just” was volunteering to do the thing that they were referring to.
Spammed by the WA House Republican Leader to encourage my representatives to vote no on SB 6346 (taxing millionaires). 🙄
A fantastic, fast regular expression engine that supports intersection, complement, and lookarounds in linear time, combining Brzozowski derivatives and lazy DFA construction.

The Story of Wall Street Raider: https://www.wallstreetraider.com/story.html
> This is the story of how Wall Street Raider—the most comprehensive financial simulator ever made—was born, nearly died, and was resurrected. It's a story about obsession, about code that takes on a life of its own, about a game that accidentally changed the careers of hundreds of people. And it's about the 50-year age gap between two developers who, despite meeting in person for the first time only via video call, would trust each other with four decades of work.
Someone else who cares about URL paths as much as I do! https://unsung.aresluna.org/unsung-heroes-flickrs-urls-scheme
Also @aredridel on LLM coding resonates, especially this!
> As activists mitigating the harms of “AI”, we need to be well informed, and we need to understand what the specific harms are. Treating it with a hands-clean purist mindset will be extremely difficult and as activism, more alienating than effective. These are genuinely useful tools, and pretending they aren’t will not in fact win many hearts and minds.

It's #AdventOfCode again, which means that it is again time to have fun with Uiua!

There are lots of decorated houses on Green Lake for Halloween, but the scariest must be the one with the Harrell/Davidson/Nelson yard signs.
Kind of a sad ending to the Kryptos sculpture story: https://www.nytimes.com/2025/10/16/science/kryptos-cia-solution-sanborn-auction.html
